Junior Linux Administrator

Position Description:

The ideal candidate will have experience in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) Operating Systems (OS) to include the analysis, design, development, testing, and implementation process of proposed enhancements and modifications for inclusion in the development and production environments. Experience in server patching, software deployments, image development, STIG hardening, auditing, and improving OS to meet current and future requirements.

  • Design and implement new technologies or solutions to meet/exceed customer requirements.
  • Develop knowledge of the current technology and its utilization, future or alternative technologies, and the resilience of systems and services.
  • Design and implement software lifecycle management in support of projects and new customer requirements to reduce dependencies to EOL hardware or software.
  • Work with other teams and groups to resolve various outages, and major issues.
  • Participate in ECRB and CAB meetings to discuss proposed changes.
  • Provide the operations and maintenance for servers, remote access, software, and hardware. Maintenance includes (but is not limited to) backup and restoration, software upgrades, software patch installations, security hardening, hardware replacements and diagnosis/resolution of any software/hardware issues.
  • Use server-monitoring tools to optimize, improve, expand, upgrade server capabilities, and connectivity as deemed necessary.
  • Correct data spills and perform sanitation in accordance with established Government policies and processes.
  • Install, configure, and harden standard server images to reflect approved configuration changes.
  • Deploy and configure new servers and software in support of customer requirements or projects.
  • Automate the deployments and configurations of operating systems and software making sure that all components interface correctly with each other and the network – including base server software and applications installed, such as antivirus, monitoring tools, and backup agents.

Position Requirements/Qualifications:

  • BS/BA in related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Secret Clearance – Required.
  • At least two years of experience utilizing Linux.
  • RHCE (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience with the development and implementation of new software and hardware technologies.
  • Experience with server engineering/administration to build, patch, and upgrade Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, 7, and 8 servers.
  • Experience using VMware vCenter, vRealize Operations Manager (vROps), snapshots, and templates.
  • Proficient with automation and scripting with languages such as Shell, PERL, Python, and tools such as Ansible, and Red Hat Satellite Server.
  • Experience with various Linux filesystems, and storage protocols.
  • Experience with performance tuning and troubleshooting complex Linux server and application deployments.
  • Knowledge of disaster Recovery Planning – to include command and control, cloud based, and traditional data center.
  • Understanding of Software Engineering and System Development Life Cycle.
  • Understanding of Agile methodology.
  • Excellent time management, communication, presentation, and organization skills.
  • Familiarization with CM and Change Control.
  • Experience with various monitoring tools – ScienceLogic, Solarwinds, etc.
  • Security + Certification.

Preferred Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Experience with using the Remedy ticketing system.
  • Experience using Jira for project and task management.
  • 2+ years of experience working in secure Federal Government environments.
  • Knowledge of Oracle and database clustering technologies.
  • Experience with engineering and implementing highly available and secure website/application solutions.
  • At least two years of qualifying experience managing successful large scale, multi-discipline, technology, or service-oriented projects involving virtual servers and cloud services in the following technologies: Microsoft Windows Environments (Server and Desktop), Red Hat Enterprise Linux, VMware vSphere (ESXi), Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle DBMS, Active Directory, Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP), Microsoft SharePoint, various switch/firewall technologies, McAfee security products.

Pay: From $55,000.00 per year

Schedule:
