Job Description
ESSENTIAL PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION:
The purpose of this position is to operate the Jacketing equipment and lines necessary to manufacture energy products. Operates extrusion press to encase electric wire and cable in rubber or plastic sheath: specified dies, guides, and guide holders in extrusion head of press. May be designated to operate as Continuous-Vulcanizing-Machine Operator.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Start and run production line and make adjustments so that the product meets specifications. Produces the expected quantity and quality of products on a daily basis.
  • Set-up the production line by following procedures documented in the Mill Spec., Quality Check Methods (QCM), Reel and Standard Length books to manufacture products to customer requirements.
  • Sets temperature control of press according to type of material to be extruded.
  • Keep work area clean and safe.
  • Responsible for reading production tickets and specifications used to run the product. Responsible for proper tooling requirements, corrugation, calculating meter footage and reel sizes for finished products.
  • Able to do machine set-ups, change heads, screen packs, the die and guiders. Operates machinery at line speeds, makes tie-in, and welds.
  • Responsible for trouble shooting problems like buckles, rough jackets, sags, ridges, lumps, tape breaks during the process.
  • Perform quality checks as required to ensure wire meets UL, customer, and plant specifications.
  • Enter output and quality data into SAP system and accurately complete all paperwork.
  • Print on multiple compounds using inkjet technology.
  • Apply mylar, foils and shields during the process.
  • Maintain multiple payoffs.
  • Perform other duties as directed by Supervisor

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
  • Read, write, perform mathematical calculations, understand verbal or written instructions, provide verbal or written information to others, work continuous shift if requested, work scheduled or unscheduled overtime if requested, maintain a good attendance and punctuality record, follow all safety rules and maintain housekeeping in area of responsibility, work well with others, and distinguish colors correctly.
  • Must be able to multi task.
  • Must be able to use and read a PIN micrometer, dial caliper, tape measure and dial micrometer. Proficient in use of computers and will be trained on company software programs. Must be able to learn the end-to-end processes, parts and able to operate the extruder.
  • This position requires standing and walking for most of the shift. This position requires lifting, bending, pushing and pulling. Some pushing of heavy reels will be necessary. Most lifting is accomplished with material handling devices i.e. reels movers, hoists, etc.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Previous work experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • High school education or the equivalent.
  • Jacketing Extrusion experience preferred.
  • Career Readiness Certification (CRC)

  • OJT - Will use company systems – SAP
