The role of the IT Project Manager is to plan, execute, and finalize projects according to strict deadlines and within budget. This includes acquiring resources and coordinating the efforts of assigned team members and third-party contractors or consultants in order to deliver projects according to plan. The IT Project Manager will define the project’s objectives and oversee quality control throughout the project’s life cycle.

Responsibilities

Strategy & Planning

  • Define IT project scope, goals and deliverables that support organizational goals in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders.

  • Effectively communicate IT project expectations to team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion.

  • Set and continually manage IT project expectations with team members and other stakeholders.

  • Plan and schedule IT project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools.

  • Track IT project milestones and deliverables.

  • Determine the frequency and content of status reports from the project team, analyze results, and troubleshoot problem areas.

  • Define IT project success criteria.

  • Conduct IT project lessons learned and create recommendations in order to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements.

  • Employ best practices and tools for IT project execution and management.

Acquisition & Deployment

  • Estimate the resources and participants needed to achieve IT project goals.

  • Draft and submit budget proposals and recommend follow-on budget changes as needed.

  • As needed, work with other work managers in creating project teams with right skills and experiences.

  • Determine and assess need for additional staff and/or consultants and make the appropriate recruitment requests during the IT project life cycle.

Operational Management

  • Direct and manage IT project development from beginning to end.

  • Develop full-scale IT project plans and communications documents.

  • Delegate tasks and responsibilities to appropriate personnel.

  • Identify and resolve issues and conflicts within the project team.

  • Identify and manage project dependencies and critical path.

  • Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations.

  • Proactively manage changes in IT project scope, identify potential crises, and devise contingency plans.

  • Coach, mentor, motivate and supervise IT project team members and contractors, and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work.

  • Build, develop, and grow any business relationships vital to the success of the project.

Position Requirements

Knowledge & Experience

  • 8+ years direct work experience in a IT project management capacity, including all aspects of project management processes and execution.

  • Strong familiarity with project management software, such as Microsoft Project Client, or Excel based work breakdown structures.

  • Familiar with DevOps and/or DevSecOps concepts and implementations.

  • 3-5 years’ experience with IT infrastructure and/or business application development projects.

  • Solid working knowledge of current project management methodologies such as Agile, Waterfall, Scrum, or Kanban.

  • Demonstrated experience in managing people and teams of people.

  • Technically competent with various software programs, such as Microsoft Office Suite and Visio

Formal Education & Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree in the field of project management, business, communications, or general management highly desired, a University or College degree/diploma is required to start. Master’s degree preferred.

  • Certification(s) in project management are highly desired, such as PMI PMP, PRINCE2.

  • Certification(s) in ITIL are highly desired.

  • Cyber security and risk management framework related certifications highly desired.

  • Minimum of active DoD Secret Clearance and willingness to maintain clearance or obtain higher security clearance and access levels.

Work Conditions

  • Overtime may be required in meet project deadlines.

  • Sitting for extended periods of time.

  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other devices and objects.

  • Physically able to participate in training sessions, presentations, and meetings.

  • Some travel, including International travel with valid passport, may be required for the purpose of meeting with clients, stakeholders, or off-site personnel/management.
