Job Title: Interior Designer

Department: Property Management

Reports To: Executive Director

Job Status: Exempt, Salaried

Commitment: Part Time/Full Time

About the FHC: Formed in the Summer of 2010, the Fraternity Housing Corporation (FHC) exists to provide safe, competitive and attractive housing and meeting facilities for the members of Alpha Gamma Delta. Today, the FHC owns or leases almost over 65 Alpha Gamma Delta homes, dorms, lodges and suites across the United States. The FHC is committed to providing the highest quality property management support for each unique chapter served.

Job Summary: The Interior Designer will support the Fraternity Housing Corporation on a day-to-day basis. They have broad responsibilities for the selections of property designs, reviewing shop drawings, space planning, design concepts, interior finish selections, and the procurement of furniture, fixtures, and accessories. The Interior Designer ensures clear communication between staff and project vendors, and builds strong relationships with vendors and contractors, with a specific focus on meeting time, cost and performance targets.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Strategically vision a project and communicate vision using mood/design boards
  • Use sense of style to develop designs that look great and are aesthetically pleasing
  • Select furnishings and fabrics imaginatively to create spaces that serve the organization’s varying needs
  • Possess and utilize knowledge of furniture, fixtures, architectural/interior finishes, lighting, signage, color and materials to carry out design in new construction and renovation projects
  • Precisely measure interior spaces, make drawings and make decisions, so that furniture and furnishings will fit correctly and create the appropriate environment
  • Continually assess the industry for innovation ideas, solutions and trends
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with clients, staff members, engineers, building contractors, and other designers regarding ongoing construction and renovation projects
  • Address challenges, such as construction delays and the high cost or sudden unavailability of selected materials
  • Work with FHC project manager and contractors to value engineer a project
  • Work with vendors to open trade accounts and negotiate prices
  • Use sense of proportion and visual awareness to understand how pieces of a design will fit together to create the intended interior environment
  • Manage multiple projects to be delivered on-time and on-budget
  • Attend design conferences

Supervisory Responsibilities: Interior Design Assistants/Interns, as applicable

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Problem-solving skills
  • Detail oriented project management skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in presentations and in writing
  • Ability to use Revit, Photoshop and AutoCAD
  • Proficiency in navigating builder/architect proprietary project software
  • Goal and team oriented, able to work closely with people while exhibiting a positive attitude
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work and make sound, tasteful design decisions under pressure and within tight deadlines
  • Able to see a project through from concept to finished space
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite

Education:

  • Must have a bachelor's degree in Interior Design (CIDA accredited), Architecture or other relevant field

Experience:

  • 2-5 years experience in Interior Design
  • Familiarity with residential and commercial properties preferred
  • NICDQ Accreditation preferred
  • Experience with AIA contracts and documents preferred
  • Membership with Alpha Gamma Delta, or experience in a Fraternity/Sorority environment, preferred

The work environment is primarily in an office environment but involves frequent work performed from out-of-office locations for job related activities and occasional activities which are outdoors.   • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Ability and willingness to travel, sometimes extensively
  • Must be able to lift and carry items up to 35-50 pounds at times
