Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired. This position requires an employee to be onsite 1-3 days per week.

This platform, Ultifi, will help enable the frequent and seamless delivery of software-defined features, apps and services to customers over the air. It offers the potential for more cloud-based services, faster software development and new opportunities to increase customer loyalty.

GM is advancing the art of vehicle software at every level of functionality and design. The Automation & Tools team within Infotainment Engineering, works on innovated ways to implement automation testing on the constantly expanding infotainment technologies that are now filling our vehicles. As a Development Engineer within this team, you will be responsible for understanding requirements, crafting methods to automate test actions on an Integrated Infotainment sub-system and maintaining them. The Engineer will manage the deployment of Python based libraries solutions that use existing technologies in the bench or creating new solutions that enable full test automation.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Responsible for designing, creating, and maintaining supporting function blocks that enable automated testing for different infotainment domains
  • Harmonize activities with the rest of the infotainment automation development team with the test execution team
  • Development of new solutions for testing automation, tools, and framework platforms
  • Work with multi-functional automation teams (validation and others) to gain alignments and efficiencies
  • Interact with multiple engineering fields (Systems leads, Software Development, Validation, and Suppliers) to define required automated testing functionality
  • Document implemented solutions functionality and maintain demonstration samples
  • Provide report out to leadership regarding System/Subsystem bench automation progress
  • Continued learning of new automation and tools advancements/techniques to align/keep up with new technologies
  • Remain current on industry standard methodologies for test automation development

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science or related technical degree
  • Minimum of 2 years of Python programming engineering experience
  • Professional experience working in Python scripting, Appium framework, Robot Framework
  • Experience with vehicle communication protocols such as CAN, LIN, Automotive Ethernet, and related serial data communication monitoring tools
  • Knowledge of automotive software test automation methodologies
  • Understanding of Vehicle Electrical Architecture and Subsystem/Features in the Infotainment domain
  • Ability to cultivate collaboration within and across teams
  • Demonstrated capability to independently learn new technologies
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal direction

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Automotive industry experience
  • Experience with multi-threaded development on Android platforms
  • Experience in using IBM rational tools like RTC, RQM, DOORS including CI tools Jenkins, Artifactory
  • Experience using source code control systems such as Git
  • Experience developing automation tools in Python, Java, or any other programming language
  • MATLAB/Simulink/Visual Basic experience
  • Understanding of the capability of HIL test methods and HIL development environment
