Job Description
DutiesSummary

The selectee is responsible for assisting in defining and maintaining the Infrastructure architecture for the Agency, focusing on the structure, organization, and interoperation of hardware to support business requirements, including their distribution Agency-wide.


Responsibilities
  • The duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Serves as technical expert responsible for assisting in designing and deploying system architectures.
  • Provides leadership in problem analysis and problem solving in a technical environment to assess impacts of current and emerging infrastructure technologies.
  • Researches emerging methods and tools for integrating system development strategies into IT projects to maintain project timelines and development costs.
  • Aids in establishing policy, standards and guidelines which serve to communicate Agency direction for introducing new application systems to the infrastructure.
  • Develops strategies to ensure IT project leaders and application developers apply, use, and maintain version control when working with multiple vendor products.

    QualificationsApplicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including time-in-grade restrictions, specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.

    TIME-IN-GRADE: Current federal employees applying for a promotion opportunity must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirement of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled.

    FOR THE GS-13 LEVEL: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-12 level) that may have been obtained in the private or public (local, county, state, Federal) sectors which demonstrates:
    • Interpreting IT policies, standards and guidelines; evaluating and recommending adoption of new or enhanced approaches to delivering IT and storage services;
    • Performs installation, maintenance, modification, operation and coordination of the Linux, VMware, Windows operating systems;
    • Installing and maintaining all hardware and system software and interfaces between systems; diagnosing system failures to isolate the source of problems between equipment, network system software, operating systems, application programs and recommending and/or taking corrective action.
    • Develop and implement migration and backup strategies including planning for continuity of operations during the deployment of new server / cloud technologies.
    • Manage special projects that have a significant impact on the delivery of customer support services, e.g., infrastructure or data relocation.
    In addition, all applicants qualifying based on experience must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. Applicants must demonstrate possession of these competencies within the body of the resume; no separate statements addressing them are required.
