Position Summary

The Industrial Hygienist will have a deep understanding of the interaction between environmental hazards and human health in commercial settings. Competent with sampling and analysis of potential hazards. Strong background in science with a strong interest in the impact of environment on health.

. Requirements:

Essential Functions

  • Conducts various tests and analyses to recognize, eliminate, and control occupational health hazards and diseases
  • Collects samples of dust, gases, vapors, and other potentially toxic materials for analysis.
  • Investigates adequacy of ventilation, exhaust equipment, lighting, and other conditions which may affect employee health, comfort, or efficiency.
  • Conducts evaluations of exposure to ionizing and nonionizing radiation and to noise and recommends measures to ensure maximum employee protection.
  • Performs industrial hygiene filed measurements and safety evaluations.
  • Assesses workplace for occupational health hazards by observing work conditions, assessing records, conducting interviews, sampling, and monitoring chemical or physical agents.
  • Determines appropriate monitoring and sampling strategies, if indicated, and conducts these activities.
  • Maintains, operates, and calibrates a variety of sampling and monitoring equipment.
  • Evaluates and interprets monitoring and sampling results, makes determinations, and develops corrective strategies.
  • Prepares accurate and complete technical reports of survey findings and provides recommendations on how to correct hazardous conditions.
  • Acquire and maintain environmental certifications and training to maintain compliance as needed

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental field desired but not required
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in field desired

Work Environment

GHP Industrial Hygienists operate in a professional office environment and in the field (which includes client’s offices, hospitals, hotels, schools, government buildings, and other locations). This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop or tablet computers and smartphones, and special equipment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Travel

Extensive travel is required for many GHP Projects, and an Industrial Hygienist will need to visit Project sites. Every effort is made to return an employee to their home city as often as the project allows. Bi-weekly is strived for but not guaranteed.
