Let’s Talk About the Job:

The Human Resources Manager is responsible for the administration of Human Resource policies and programs and provides support and guidance to employees and management. This role must balance employee programs and benefits with the operating needs of the business. This role provides comprehensive HR support to their designated support areas. This support will include recruitment, staff planning, performance management, facilitation of training, basic benefits administration, payroll, and employee engagement. The Human Resources Manager will partner with business leaders to fully understand business strategy and constraints, and how HR can best support achieving positive results. Success in this role will be highly dependent on building relationships that drive operational effectiveness by using HR and industry knowledge to maximize results and manage change. The Human Resources Manager position is a highly visible and key role within the organization and involves interaction with team members at all levels.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Partners with Inland employees and management to deliver reasonable and realistic solutions to business, people management and human resource concerns and constraints. Serves as a coach and trusted business adviser to influence organizational leaders in areas of employee relations, talent management, performance management, rewards and recognition, change management, inclusion & diversity, and the potential impact of short and long-term decisions and strategies.
  • Performs employee relations functions including support and counseling regarding personnel and job related conflicts, problem solving and dispute resolution, managing employee performance issues, review and assessment of corrective action and termination requests, and conducting exit interviews and evaluations.
  • Manages administration of Leaves of Absence, Disability programs and unemployment functions.
  • Works closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
  • Supports annual open enrollment activities and other benefits related programs and initiatives.
  • Assures company policy and practice is administered appropriately throughout assigned support areas and across the entire organization.
  • Partners with other members of the HR team to identify and implement business process improvements.
  • In conjunction with Inland’s Talent Acquisition Team, supports the Recruitment process by facilitating onsite interviews, managing and providing recommendations on internal recruitment strategy as well as represents Inland at external recruitment and networking related events.
  • Organizes and schedules all Pre-Hire activities for new employees to Inland. Works with Occupational Health partners to ensure proper completion of these activities.
  • Schedules, facilitates, and makes arrangements for all training and development events, and processes for Inland.
  • Maintains employee training and certification tracking system which includes entering new hires into the program, assigning applicable training checklists, auditing the system for accuracy and following up with trainers and management as needed.
  • Manages Inland’s Learning Management System (LMS) and serves as the primary contact for system administration and system/training set up. Becomes a software expert in the LMS application and stays up-to-date on new features and version changes.
  • Manages and enhances Inland’s employee and leadership development programs to ensure a top-notch, skilled workforce.
  • Conducts employee and management training on human resource topics, such as benefits, policy and procedure, harassment, discrimination and payroll processes.
  • Schedules, administers, delivers and works to continually improve and enhance the New Employee Orientation and Onboarding process for all Inland locations.
  • Assists in planning site specific Employee Engagement activities which include such practices as: Employee Engagement Survey, employee celebrations and events, United Way Campaign, company volunteer events, anniversary and birthday recognition, retirement gatherings, and employee gifts.
  • Supports the Environmental, Health and Safety functions, through administration of the Eye Wear and Safety Footwear Programs, assistance with facility related injuries and work restrictions, helps audit and maintain a safe work environment and participates in the facility Safety Committees.
  • Facilitates various employee communication activities and events, such as internal communication postings, annual open enrollment announcements and safety compliance postings.
  • Assists in HRIS system management
  • Administrative support to HR functions, that includes record keeping and file maintenance.
  • Serves as a payroll back up and processes payroll two times annually.

Essential skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Management or a related field
  • 5 years of work experience in Human Resources, preferably in an HR Business Partner or Generalist role
  • Knowledge of current recruitment practices, payroll, training and human resource law
  • Prior work experience dealing with mid and senior level management
  • Willingness to learn, adapt to change, and take on additional duties and tasks

  • Must possess considerable initiative, outstanding customer service skills, with ability to learn quickly

  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite and comfortable learning new technology and programs
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills (ability to write formulas, create graphs / pivot tables, produce reports that allow for easy data interpretation/analysis)

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Nonessential skills and experience:

  • Graduate-level degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Management or a related field
  • Prior experience with ADP Workforce Now HRIS system
  • PHR Certification or SHRMP-CP

Work Environment:

  • Operates in a demanding, fast-paced, people-oriented manufacturing environment with frequent changes and interruptions, and multiple project assignments.
  • Works with a variety of people including vendors, customers, employees, managers, and executives.

Required Work Schedule:

  • Typically works 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
  • Must be flexible to attend meetings, functions and to be available during off hours, weekends, and holidays to meet organizational initiatives.
  • Supporting a 24/7 facility, so availability to support operations during evenings, nights, and weekend is essential
  • Occasional travel and overnight trips will be necessary in this role.
