Our HRBP’s focus on Classification and Compensation is the perfect opportunity for an experienced professional with strong analytical skills to spearhead the City’s classification and compensation plan, providing guidance on market competitive pay for all positions.

Starting Salary $56,000 - $70,000/DOQ

This dynamic, analytical, detail-driven member of the HR team ensures the City provides internal equity and external competitiveness, serving as a credible subject-matter expert for our classification and compensation program. Supports the development and administration of the City’s classification and compensation framework to include annual salary planning, merit increase processes, variable pay and other incentive programs.

Essential Job Functions

Our Human Resources Business Partner for Classification and Compensation will be responsible for managing the classification and compensation strategies; assessing FLSA classifications; pay plans; incentive plans; conducting compensation and data analysis; conducting salary surveys and market studies. This position will also work heavily with our HRIS (Munis/ESS), troubleshooting and maintaining code information. This HRBP will facilitate compensation planning, provide advice on pay decisions and policy interpretations to insure consistent application of compensation practices and alignment with the City’s pay philosophies.

As part of the credentialed City HR Team, our HRBP will be presented with opportunities to facilitate in-house training sessions, enrich our current processes, and network with other HR professionals to continually seek out and enhance our City solutions that support and optimize our most valuable resource: our City employees! This position is also telework-eligible on a hybrid schedule, offering an incredible work-life balance experience.

Minimum Required Qualifications

This position is open to experienced HR professionals with minimally a Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Public Administration or related discipline supplemented by four (4) years of progressively responsible direct human resources experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. SHRM-CP, IPMA-CP, or PHR certification preferred; prior experience in Virginia local government a plus.

Must have knowledge of the theories, principles and practices of classification and compensation management and administration; knowledge of all federal, state, and local regulations and compliance requirements related to employee compensation; excellent data analysis, problem solving, decision making and communication skills; strong organizational skills with demonstrated attention to detail; experience with developing and maintaining classification and compensation programs; solid PC skills and experience working with the MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) are a must; experience using Tyler Munis HRIS is a preferred.
