Job Description
PHILOSOPHY:

POSITION SUMMARY: The House Supervisor is responsible for the administrative management of hospital wide patient care activities on his/her designated shift. He/She consults with staff, physicians, and Chief Nursing Officer or designee on nursing procedures and interpretation of hospital policies to ensure patient needs are met. Responds to the Emergency Department while in the facility. The House Supervisor must be able to manage department and the provision of nursing service according to the Standards of Nursing Practice consistent with facility philosophy of care and state and federal laws and regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing;

2. Must hold a current state license and must maintain license renewal in accordance with the standards of the State Board of Nursing;

3. Two years’ experience in acute care or long-term acute care environment;

4. Substantial interpersonal skills required in order to instruct and comfort patients and their families and maintain effective contacts with a variety of medical center personnel and staff;

5. A high level of analytical skills necessary in order to effectively utilize the nursing process;

6. Acquires and effectively utilize knowledge of department/unit policies and procedures following unit specific orientation period;

7. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail in performing and planning professional nursing care and dealing with patient and families often during stressful situations. Ability to practice Universal Blood and Body Fluid precautions and appropriately handle hazardous materials and follow OSHA, CMS and other regulatory bodies’ regulations per approved policies and procedures;

8. Minimum of two years of supervisory experience preferred;

9. Must be able to read, write, and speak English, as well as, possess excellent verbal and written communication skills

CERTIFICATIONS: BLS certification required, ACLS certification required, PALS recommended, Specialty Certification recognized
