Experienced Gardener/Horticulturist

Fine Gardening business - Poulsbo, WA

$15 - $18 per hour DOE

Full-time (35 to 45 hrs a week)

Job locations: Poulsbo, Indianola, Bainbridge Island, Belfair, and Port Ludlow.

We are looking for an employee who is detail-oriented and able to work with a sense of urgency. Those demonstrating motivation and commitment can expect to advance rapidly. We are willing to promote the right people into management roles once they have proven themselves in the field.

Requirements:

  • 2-3 years of Horticulture experience and/or education. (We would consider a person who is interested in a horticulture career. )
  • Communicating any/ all issues that arise in the field to the supervisor.
  • Ensuring that crew members are following all safety requirements.
  • You must be familiar with a wide range of typical northwest garden plants, including trees and shrubs, both in identification and care.
  • You need to be able to identify symptoms of plant stress, including nutrient problems, diseases, water needs, and insect damage.
  • Ability to provide feedback on issues in the field and give potential solutions.
  • You need to be willing and able to go to ALL of our clients' gardens, including Bainbridge Island, Indianola, and Hood Canal, at times using your vehicle to meet on site. With C-19 we are not able to offer car-pooling, and you may need to bring tools with you.
  • Work outside in all weather, performing activities including but not limited to; bending, kneeling, lifting, stooping, squatting, reaching, and walking on uneven surfaces for long periods of time.
  • Operating edgers, line trimmers, power aerators, mechanical thatcher, lawnmower, and pressure washer.
  • Clean driving record and ability to drive company vehicles if needed.

  • Ability to creatively and practically solve problems.
  • Experience with correct methods of pruning is highly encouraged.
  • Ability to lift fifty pounds regularly.

We are a small company and want a team member who works well with us. Our team is flexible, fair, generous, and crazy about cool plants.

We are expanding in some specialized areas. Let us know if you have experience with seasonal/container gardening, pruning, and garden inoculations.

Work is full-time year-round; at times, weather can cause our days to be shortened or canceled.
