Heavy Equipment Operator

Chemours is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to join our growing Jesup Mining team! This position will report directly to the Production Shift Supervisor in our Jesup, GA location.

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for operating heavy mobile equipment of various sizes and weights for mining and mineral processing facilities operating 24-hours per day, 7-days per week such as bulldozers and excavators in support of active mining operations. This earth moving position will work collaboratively with a team of 8 to 10 operators, under the direction of the Production Shift Supervisor, focused on the safe and efficient delivery of raw ore to mine processing facilities and management of sand tails.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Daily activities

    • Ensure all work is performed within company, state, and federal regulations, standards, statutes, policies, and procedures.

    • Safely and efficiently operates various pieces of mobile heavy equipment including bulldozers and tracked excavators.

    • Identify and promote opportunities to improve mine safety performance, act as a safety leader.

    • Safely drive and maneuvers equipment into position for digging, loading, hauling, dumping, pushing, and/or spreading material in designated work areas.

    • Receive and execute written or oral instructions regarding material movement or excavation.

    • Ensure operation of equipment is within machine capabilities and limitations.

    • Performs pre-shift and post-shift safety inspections, reporting and logging maintenance requirements or concerns.

    • Complete production reporting and other documentation as required.

    • Responsible for routine vehicle inspections, fluid/air checks, fueling of off-road equipment.

    • Ensure heavy equipment is safely and securely stored.

    • Ability to assist maintenance personnel in performing mechanical maintenance and repairs as needed.

    • Communicate effectively and professionally with other team members.

  • Goals for the role

    • Act as a Safety Leader to ensure individual and team Safety remain top priority in the planning and execution of all tasks.

    • Work closely with Company Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) personnel targeting zero incidents and continuous improvement of mine site EHS performance.

    • Continuous improvement in mining approach, encourage initiatives intended to reduce safety risk, increase productivity, improve efficiency and reduce operating cost.

  • Responsibilities

    • Work in a self-guided manner in the absence of supervision and demonstrate creativity, exercise sound judgment, and demonstrate initiative.

    • Report all personal injuries and EHS incidents and assist with both safety and environmental investigations.

    • Clean heavy equipment as scheduled and ensure a high standard of housekeeping is maintained in all assigned work areas.

    • Maintain knowledge of safe work practices and procedures. Attend meetings and classes as identified by Southern Ionics Minerals, LLC.

In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:

  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED) and ability to read and write the English language.

  • Valid Drivers License

  • Experience operating equipment preferred but not required to include tracked excavators, wheeled loaders, track type tractors (bulldozers), motor graders, and skid steers. Training to be provided.

  • Ability to work a rotating schedule and/or varying shifts and must be punctual in adhering to established start times; attendance at work is an essential function to the performance of this position.

  • Ability to work any shift, holidays, weekends, and overtime as needed.

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to use hands, fingers, and feet in a coordinated effort to move levers, depress foot pedals, and turn dials to operate power machinery.

  • Specific vision abilities required, including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Frequently ascends or descends ladders, stairs, elevated walkways, ramps and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 80% of the time in the operation of mobile equipment.

  • Capable of wearing personal protective equipment, such as hearing protectors and respirators, as necessary.
