POSITION SUMMARY:
There are two Head Counselors, one male and one female. Head Counselors will serve as primary problem-solvers among counselors and role models for both campers and counselors. A Head Counselor can expect to assist in camper and staff placements, as well as other specialty programming throughout the day. This position is similar to that of a team captain. They will be placed in a cabin pod and live among campers and counselors. Head Counselors will be responsible for working with program specialists to create Ohana Time Programming and leading various activities throughout the week as well.

KNOW-HOW:
The Camp Counselor must have a thorough understanding of the YMCA’s mission and goals, and a desire to work with children between the ages of 7 and 17. Leadership skills, enthusiasm, patience, a sense of humor and self-control are all essential. Person must have the ability to provide fun and innovative programs to youth. These programs will be a combination of directed programs in the areas of arts & crafts, aquatics, sports, team building, hiking, and self-directed programs such as group games, campfires, camp out and other activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be a high school graduate
  • Experience working with children
  • CPR/AED and First Aid required
  • TB test required
  • Lifeguard certified preferred
  • Ability to be physically active all day
