Club Athletics Program

Northwest Nazarene University (NNU) Club Athletic programs will compete with teams in a variety of associated conferences at the club level. NNU offers the following two sports for men and women at the club level: Lacrosse and Soccer.

Women’s lacrosse will compete in the US Lacrosse Women’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association (WCLA) and join the Northwest Women’s Lacrosse League (NWWLL). The NWWLL consists of 5 Division I teams and 8 Division II teams representing Washington, Idaho, Oregon and Montana. NNU will compete in Division II.

Description of Position

The Club Sports & Recreation Office is seeking applicants for a part-time coaching assignment, exempt position, as the Women’s Head Lacrosse Coach. The WLAX Head Coach for Northwest Nazarene University is part of the Department for Student Life and reports to the Director of Club Sports and Recreation.

Northwest Nazarene University has established our Women’s Club Lacrosse program in the 2019-2020 school year. NNU is accepting applications for the position of Head Lacrosse Coach for the 2020-2021 school year. The individual will be responsible for helping establish the new program and coaching all details of the sport, including, but not limited to: budget management, recruiting, eligibility, NNU & League compliance and documentation, public relations, scheduling, travel, scholarships, roster management, managing assistant coaches, practice and game management, camps, fundraising, coaching, player development, and other duties assigned by the Club Sports Director. Head coaches are expected to promote and develop spiritual formation and leadership, academic excellence, athletic competitiveness and community engagement.

Essential Functions

Administration and operation of a women’s club lacrosse team, including, but not limited to:

  • Recruitment of 4-5 new players per year
  • Maintain a roster of 15-18 players
  • Organize and play a schedule of 10-14 games per year
  • Practice and game organization and management
  • Coaching at games and practices
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Club Sports and Recreation

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School or Bachelor’s degree
  • Lacrosse coaching experience
  • Sufficient skills, knowledge and training to perform the essential functions of this position
  • The University requires that all candidates be Christians (preferably in the Wesleyan tradition), and must be comfortable with and in agreement with the mission and lifestyle values of NNU; candidates are asked to respond to the information items listed on the NNU Christian Mission requirements
  • High motivation and commitment to the University, organizational skills, the ability to self-start, be calm under pressure, meet deadlines, work without direct supervision, multi-task, problem solve, and relate to a variety of personalities under diverse circumstances
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to obtain and maintain current First Aid and CPR certifications
  • Ability to obtain NNU driving certification
  • Offer of employment is contingent on successful results from a background investigation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree
  • Collegiate/Club level (or equivalent) Lacrosse coaching experience
  • Experience recruiting student-athletes
  • Administrative experience
  • Knowledge of League rules and regulations
  • Proficiency in utilizing workplace technology

Compensation

Salary will be determined by the educational background and experience of each applicant and will be discussed with individual candidates as they are invited to interview for this position. Part-time personnel are not eligible for benefits package unless position meets benefits eligibility.
