GRANT MANAGER & WRITER: Outside the Lens

TEAM: Executive and Development

REPORTS TO: Development Team

LOCATION: Liberty Station, 2750 Historic Decatur Road, San Diego, California 92106

JOB SUMMARY:

The Grant Writer at OTL collaborates with the Impact Team to support OTL’s mission to amplify youth voices through photography, filmmaking, and digital media, catalyzing change within themselves, their communities, and the world. Our Grant Writer is part of a team responsible for the organization's full range of fund development activities. These activities include grant writing, submittal, and reporting. Specifically, this Grant Writer is responsible for ideating with the creative programs team, writing proposals for unrestricted operating revenue and specific projects.

THE WORK:

  • Responsible for conducting the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to foundation and corporate sources in alignment with current OTL grants workflow
  • Prospect and research foundation, government and corporate funding priorities to evaluate prospects for grant opportunities
  • Work with finance to gather information necessary to report to corporate/foundation funders on current grant programs.
  • Comply with all grant reporting as required by foundation/corporate donors.
  • Provide regular written updates (newsletters etc.) to corporate, government, and foundation donors.
  • Understanding of institutional history and programs, as well as emerging and pilot initiatives of the organization.
  • Maintain current documents in the Google Drive database.
  • Assist with other fundraising projects as requested
  • Establish and create development goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish and monitor priorities
  • Collaborate with a team of creatives and media educators to understand our mission and impact through and understanding our program initiative areas.
  • Lead and schedule development meetings, and provide grants reports for staff and board meetings.
  • Monitor and maintain a positive virtual collaboration environment to provide and support creative communication strategies with staff.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to continuous professional growth and works with OTL Impact Team to formulate and complete professional development plans.

THE SKILLS:

The ideal candidate will have exceptional writing, organizational, research, administrative, and people skills. Experience includes:

  • Strong written communication skills; ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals.
  • Strong editing skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of grant and fundraising information sources.
  • Experience with proposal writing and institutional donors.
  • Knowledge of fundraising techniques and strategies.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with research techniques for fundraising prospect research.
  • Minimum of two to five years of experience with grant writing.
  • Previous experience with non-profit fundraising.
