Job Description
If you are a current YAI employee, please click this link to apply through your Workday account. The Haverstraw residence is home to 5 men and 2 women ranging in age from early 20s to mid 40s. Some of their favorite activities include shopping and go to movies, restaurants and parks. Depending on each person's abilities and preferences, various communication methods are utilized including sign language, gestures/body language, vocalizations, pictures, and the use of electronic communication devices such as iPads. Staff working in this program must be able to assist with all areas of personal care including mealtime assistance, bathing and toileting, though each resident has their own support needs ranging from largely independent to needing intensive supports. Direct Support Professionals should be committed to both teaching and to learning. The ideal candidate will be able to work effectively in a team setting, as well completing responsibilities individually. The ideal candidate will have enthusiasm for working with people with intellectual/developmental disabilities and a willingness to help with ADLs (assisting with showering, toileting, grooming, etc.) as necessary. Responsibilities:
  • Assist the program Supervisor in ensuring that all staff have completed training requirements
  • Assist the program Supervisor with staff scheduling and overall supervision
  • Be an advocate for the people we support
  • Act as a liaison between the people we support and their families
  • Plan recreational activities
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED; some college is a plus
  • Valid Driver's License, NY State preferred
  • Work or life experience supporting people with intellectual/developmental disabilities preferred
  • Ability to participate in 3-5 weekdays of paid NYS Mandated OPWDD initial trainings during normal business hours upon hire
  • Tuberculosis test mandatory for most positions (provided FREE of charge by our Premier Healthcare clinic)
Schedule:
  • Sunday - Thursday: 3:00 pm - 11:00 pm
