Job Description

At a Glance! Lower Columbia College is accepting applications for multiple Food Service Worker Subs. This position handles food preparation, serving, dishwashing and sanitization functions for Head Start.

This position is categorized as an Food Service Worker, under State of Washington Class Specification. This is a 9 month position working no more than 17 hours per week.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepare food as directed by the Food Service Manager.
  • Serve USDA lunches and snacks for preschool children.
  • Maintain kitchen equipment, serving utensils, food preparation and storage areas in a safe and sanitary manner.
  • Post menus in kitchens.
  • Calculate accurate quantities of eating utensils and food service material for each classroom.
  • Select and organize correct table settings and food portions for each classroom.
  • Maintain and use inventory system.
  • Assist with transporting as directed by the Food Service Manager.
  • Understand the needs of children and parents, incorporating them into the food program.
  • Participate as an active member of the Food Services Team.
  • Work in a professional manner.
  • Respect the confidentiality of information as defined in the Confidentiality Policy.
  • Exhibit independent work skills, leadership, and flexibility.
  • Train aides and volunteers in accordance with program philosophy and policies.
  • Exhibit intent to increase knowledge, skill, and personal growth.
  • Attend and contribute to staff meetings and Food Service Team meetings.
  • In consultation with supervisor, develop professional work goals and training plan.
  • Participate in training as requested.
  • Performs Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year experience in food service.

Occasionally - be able to maintain sight and sound while preparing and delivering meals Frequently- multiple uses of bleach solution for cleaning/sanitizing kitchen and food preparation materials daily/weekly

Frequently – use lift gate to transfer food service items from truck to kitchen
Frequently - bend over to pick up items
Frequently - stacking food service items
Frequently - lift heavy boxes of bulk food and supplies up to 40lbs.

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Policy Council Approval
  • Provide Certificate of Immunization Status (CIS) or Acceptable Version of CIS in accordance with the Washington Department of Health; OR, request that an authorized employee in Head Start/EHS/ECEAP pull the employee’s CIS from the Washington Immunization Information System (IIS).
