Providence is calling a Food Service Assistant to Providence Milwaukie Hospital in Milwaukie , Oregon. This is an on call, variable shift position.

We are seeking a Food Service Assistant who will provide a high level of customer service for patients, family members, volunteers, physicians and staff. The Service Excellence Standards of Behavior guidelines must be adhered to at all times. Must have comprehensive knowledge of, and be compliant with, specified regulatory requirements, and food safety and sanitation regulations for food service in a health care environment. Proper sanitation procedures and practices must be following to assure the cleanliness and sanitation of ware-washing, service-ware, equipment in the work area. Adhere to County/State Health department, hospital, and department standards, policies and procedures at all times.

In this position you will be responsible for the following responsibilities:

  • Have interactions and interpersonal relations with the public, fellow employees, supervisors, and other department employees must be positive/professional at all time, regardless of situation
  • Report to work as scheduled and on time per hospital policy
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information per policy
  • Support and contribute to effective safety and risk management efforts by adhering to policies and procedures, maintaining a safe environment, promoting accident prevention, and identifying and reporting potential liabilities
  • Seek ways to improve quality of service provided and shares ideas with management
  • Comply with Providence Health & Services, and departmental policies and procedures
  • Attend departmental meetings and in-services per policy
  • Perform physically demanding, repetitive duties for extended periods of time. Performing duties requires one to be highly mobile and work on your feet continuously while meeting time sensitive delivery standards and goals
  • Prepare order/request for food, beverages, garnishes and accompaniments per instruction for patients and customers
  • Assure the delivery of hot, aesthetically pleasing and nutritionally correct meals to patients
  • Assure presentation of food/beverage is attractive and aesthetically pleasing for all customers
  • Place accurate and correct portions of food, beverages, and service ware on customer and patient's trays as dictated by menu, portion standard and diet order
  • Load, deliver and retrieve carts to and from specified nursing units in a timely manner according to standards
  • Have ability to walk long distance repetitively
  • Have ability to learn locations within the hospital to deliver and retrieve carts and provide catering services
  • Load dirty dishes into machine and unloads clean dishes and equipment into specified dispensers and stores in proper location
  • Empty, clean and sanitize tray and service carts
  • Maintain clean, organized and sanitary work area and equipment according to ServSafe and other regulatory agency standards of practice
  • Handle food in a safe manner assuring customers are not exposed to food borne illness
  • Use safe food handling techniques in the preparation, service and transport of service ware, and in the delivery of foods and beverages
  • Work with food products in a manner that optimizes correct handling, temperature and storage standards
  • Rotate and stock food and beverage according to standards
  • Ability to read order tickets, screens, cash registers, monitors and record temperatures
  • Take customers orders, operates cash register, buses tables, preps food, takes phone orders and provides espresso coffee services
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures
  • Deliver, sets up, service and cleans up catering services in a timely manner according to standards and customer expectations/requests

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position includes:

  • High School diploma -OR- GED or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid Oregon Food Handlers Certificate or ServSafe Certification at the time of hire

Preferred qualifications for this position includes:

  • One (1) year of experience in retail dining or patient dining with emphasis on customer service and food handling
  • One (1) year of computer experience, patient interaction, and food service experience
  • One (1) year of experience in Healthcare or Dietary kitchen using 'therapeutic diets'
  • One (1) year of cashiering experience
  • One (1) year of barista experience
  • Experience in healthcare facility or large food service operation
