    Responsibilities

    If selected for this position, you will serve as a Financial Litigation Technician for the Civil Division's Financial Litigation Unit (FLU) in the United States Attorney's Office for the Western District of Washington. Typical work assignments will include:

    • Acting as the subject matter expert in the processes and procedures related to complex asset identification and debt collection activities;
    • Investigating complicated financial assets and transactions and providing comparative analyses of information furnished by debtors;
    • Interpreting and enforcing judgments in criminal cases, and performing all functions to collect amounts imposed as a result of the prosecution of criminal cases;
    • Communicating with debtors to present options for debt payments, answering questions, explaining pertinent procedures, clarifying information and working cases to resolution;
    • Drafting and/or preparing letters, forms and reports necessary to initiate the collection of debts;
    • Evaluating debt collection documents and records for mathematical accuracy, to verify that payment transactions are properly documented and to identify any discrepancies; and
    • Participating in decisions concerning post judgment remedies such as garnishments, judgment debtor examination in aid of execution, or attachment and levy of the debtors' property.

    QualificationsGS-7: To be qualified at the GS-7 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 level in federal service.

    Specialized experience is defined as serving as a technician in the processes and procedures related to asset identification and debt collection activities. Examples of specialized experience include: using common online resources to obtain and analyze routine financial information regarding debtors; reviewing and verifying debtors account status and payment transactions; entering and tracking financial data in automated systems and spreadsheets; drafting and/or preparing standardized letters, forms, and reports; preparing routine documentation required to take legal actions; and performing basic computations and approving acceptable payment amounts.

    GS-8: To be qualified at the GS-8 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level in federal service.

    Specialized experience is defined as serving as a technician in the processes and procedures related to asset identification and debt collection activities. Examples of specialized experience include: interpreting and enforcing judgments in criminal cases; initiating contact with debtors concerning payment obligations, their ability to pay, and negotiating written payment schedules to assure successful collection of debts; conducting skip tracing activities to locate debtors; reviewing debtor financial asset information to prepare payment plans; reviewing and reconciling computerized debt collection printouts with office collection records; drafting and/or preparing letters, forms, and reports necessary to initiate the collection of debts; preparing technical pleadings, orders, and other legal documentation necessary to take legal actions; making recommendations concerning settlements, write-offs and liquidations of civil and/or criminal judgments; and identifying and recommending methods to improve the timeliness and accuracy of data collection.

    Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
