Job Description
The external reporting function handles the oversight of the financial statements and management reporting, ensuring a sound control environment; understands and applies the accounting treatments and ensures compliance with appropriate SEC and regulatory requirements; coordinates the preparation of quarterly SEC and regulatory filings; validates balance sheet items and understands balance sheet usage and reporting.

Responsibilities

As External Reporting Controller on the Consumer & Community Banking ("CCB") External Reporting team, your responsibilities will include:

  • Sourcing, compiling and validating financial information to be included in the Firm's SEC and Regulatory filings and quarterly earnings release documents
  • Review and analyze the Firm's externally reported information (SEC and Regulatory filings, earnings materials, etc.) and support reporting requirements including schedule preparation, validation of source information and variance and trend analysis
  • Ensure conformity with applicable GAAP and regulatory guidance and interact with accounting and regulatory policy to interpret rules
  • Manage relationships with key contacts within the controller organization
  • Participate in strategic initiatives around automation of the regulatory reporting infrastructure including testing and implementation, documentation of risk and controls and general improvements related to reporting functionality
  • Maintain documentation to support the SOX control framework and internal audit standards as well as Firmwide attestation Control requirements
  • Provide requested supporting information required by auditors and regulatory authorities.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance; public accounting audit experience and/or CPA desired
  • 4+ years of accounting experience; previous financial services industry experience a plus
  • Strong analytical skills including review and managing projects that require problem-solving and critical thinking
  • Experience working in an environment that requires attention to detail and adherence to strict rules and standards
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple responsibilities within tight, predetermined deadlines
  • Highly proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word and Power Point; knowledge of Hyperion Essbase a plus
  • Experience with SAS, Tableau, and/or Alteryx or similar data mining tools is a plus
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent teamwork and oral and written communication skills
  • Flexible - work outside of normal business hours will be necessary on a periodic basis
