Executive Director of Global Business Affairs, Condé Nast Entertainment
Los Angeles

Overview/Purpose

Reporting to the Head of Global Business Affairs and Operations, the Executive Director of Global Business Affairs will be a key member of the CNE business affairs team - negotiating deals, assisting with determining content business strategy and providing business affairs expertise across all formats (e.g. digital content, podcasts, film, episodic series, live-action, animation, long-form, short-form, live-to-tape, scripted, unscripted, etc.) including for both domestic and international content. The individual in this role will additionally support the Head of Global Business Affairs and Operations in creating, implementing and maintaining business standards and policies for CNE content globally. This is a new role in a new team and is a real opportunity to be a part of building a modern, global business affairs function in partnership with other new and existing teams, whilst still benefiting from the already existing world class brands and global scale, reach and reputation of one of the world’s foremost media and entertainment companies. The ideal candidate will welcome the opportunity to be part of a fast?paced, entrepreneurial organization within CNE and will thrive in a multi-faceted business with a global focus.


Primary Responsibilities
  • Structure, negotiate and draft deal terms and short-form agreements with buyers, financiers,
talent, other production companies, studios and sales agents for the development and production
of original content across entertainment formats (digital video, podcasts, features, acquisitions,
scripted series, unscripted series, documentary), IP rights and digital video distribution and/or
licensing;
  • Handle day-to-day business affairs issues for current programming on digital channels and other
outlets (SVOD, cable, broadcast)
  • Review budgets and other financial data associated with the development and production of CNE
content;
  • Partner with various departments within CNE (e.g., production, commercial, marketing, strategy,
legal, operations, finance, etc.) to implement and maintain CNE objectives and workflows;
  • Act as a business liaison between CNE and the content community (e.g. talent agencies, studios
and independent production companies);
  • Help to implement and maintain business standards and policies associated with IP management
globally, with subject matter expertise in international local market nuances, collaborating on
policy with Condé Nast Legal, Content and Rights;
  • Help to analyze industry content business practices and advise on strategy, synergy, talent
relations and other information regarding the production and distribution of creative content;
  • Provide general business affairs counsel in a rapidly-changing, extremely competitive
international content business and technology environment; and
  • Manage, motivate, and train junior members of the team to succeed within the CNE parameters
and bring success to CNE Desired Skills and Qualifications
  • 5-7 years of experience in Business Affairs at a global media company, preferably at a production
company or a studio and at a network/streamer
  • JD degree from top tier law school and 3-5 years practicing at a nationally-recognized law firm or
comparable in-house media experience
  • Experience with creative content development and production (e.g. talent deals, production issues, production budgets, development deals and timelines, co-productions, co-financed content, tax incentives, IP acquisitions, contingent compensation, overalls, first look deals) and licensing/acquisitions in all formats (e.g. digital, episodic series, podcasts, film, live-action, animation, long-form, short-form, live-to-tape, scripted, unscripted) including for domestic and international content
  • Entrepreneurial, creative, curious and holistic mindset, eagerness to learn and tackle matters
outside their area of expertise
  • Strong analytical capabilities and judgment in order to identify and implement effective solutions
while under intense scrutiny and time pressure
  • Ability to work proactively, independently and reliably under tight time frames in a fast?paced
environment
  • Ability to collaborate cross?functionally, take initiative, and think pragmatically
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills (written and oral) with an emotionally intelligent
communication style; positive attitude and can-do approach required
  • Stellar reputation and relationships with entertainment industry professionals, particularly
agencies, talent management companies and content buyers around the world
  • Experience successfully navigating matrixed organizations
  • Experience in a start-up or new line of business within a large, highly leveraged company
  • Familiarity with the brands and businesses of Condé Nast
