Job Description
The University of Maryland Baltimore School of Medicine, Office of Development is seeking an Executive Director, Annual Giving.

Primary Duties:
  • Oversee the development and implementation of philanthropy short- and long-term goals and strategies that significantly expand external resource philanthropical opportunities and results. Support senior staff in the development of giving programs and cultivate new donors; and maximize campus and community communication and coordination.
  • Develop, recommend, coordinate, and implement short- and long-term strategies for marketing and promoting annual giving and/or alumni campaigns, programs and services to promote donor/alumni involvement and participation that acquire, renew, retain, increase, and acquire all levels of annual and alumni giving donors. Oversee alumni communication via a communications calendar and set standards of practice.
  • Prepare annual/alumni giving metrics that are comprised of: total $’s raised; total number events; participation of targeted prospects and donors; number of new donors/prospects acquired; number of new donors/prospects at leadership level; total number of appeals. Report on trends and donor participation to be used for analysis, tracking of fundraising costs, goal setting and planning throughout the year and for building future strategies. Summarize reports showing progress and results from solicitation efforts.
  • Foster the growth of best practices in the supporting areas of alumni/donor relations as related to annual giving and the University as a whole; demonstrate a keen appreciation of annual giving as the basis of successful gift planning programs.
  • Direct activities, including related budget and expenses that are related to annual giving, marketing, alumni relation, or grateful patient. Vet vendors, working within budget, coordinating approvals, and coordinating payment.
  • Supervise other development officers and administrative support staff. Maintain relationships to foster collaboration with campus-wide fundraising, communication, and marketing efforts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree.
Experience: Eight (8) years of development experience in annual giving, phonathons, alumni relations, special events, or fundraising, or higher education development.
Supervisory Experience: Four (4) years of management or leadership experience that had direct responsibility for the performance of development officers and staff. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Achieves objectives through coordinated efforts of others, typically by managing recruitment, engagement, performance, and development of employees. Develops, implements, and manages goals and objectives. Participates in strategic planning. Determines and enforces processes, practices, and/or policies. Manages operations, workflow, projects, and/or systems that have strategic impact. Accountable for operational and/or financial resources. Accountable for legal and policy compliance.
Oversees overall direction of multiple functional areas (departments OR major functions within a school or campus wide office) that have significant University impact as the designated senior leader. Leads through subordinate senior professionals. Oversees and executes strategic goals and objectives that directly align with University strategy. Full authority to make managerial decisions within areas of responsibility, informing leadership of results. Provides transformational advice and support to leadership on University long term strategic vision. Decisions and quality of execution have significant impact to the University.
Thorough knowledge of position requirements. Thorough knowledge of all applicable requirements, regulations, and laws. Skill in effective use of applicable technology/systems. Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts. Ability to support a mission and strategic vision. Instructional, training, and teambuilding skills to strengthen and cultivate relationships. Skill in consultation and change management.
