Business Unit/Enterprise Function Description

The IT organization is focused on supporting and improving the position of its industry-leading business franchises through cost effective, innovative IT solutions as well as overseeing critical functions that enable the day-to-day operations of the entire Ally Financial enterprise. IT is also responsible for the administration and execution of information protection, disaster recovery and IT risk management.

Position Description

Position will be responsible for the integration, expansion, and support of the North American Automotive and Insurance data warehouse solutions. The Data Warehouse Developer is responsible for interpreting, organizing, designing, executing, and coordinating technical assignments within the Data Warehouse.

Candidates must have hands on experience with Oracle 10g or higher and Data Stage. Applicant will work closely with a multitude of groups throughout the organization, which will require the ability to communicate with associates with backgrounds ranging from DB development, Application Support, Networking, Operating System Administrators, Software Development Managers, and Business users from a wide range of operating units.

Job Responsibilities
  • Lead evaluation and recommendations efforts for future data architecture structure and standards.
  • Recommend the modeling approach for projects.
  • Lead design of high-level conceptual and logical models that facilitate a cross-system/cross functional view of data requirements.
  • Develops Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) Specifications to support data conversion and integrations.
  • Conducts data capacity planning, life cycle, duration, usage requirements, feasibility studies, and other tasks.
  • Develop code for Data Warehouse in support of business intelligence projects
  • Ensure consistency of Logical and Physical Data Models for all Data Warehouse applications
  • Possess a broad understanding of multiple technologies, including DBMS, ETL, Reporting, OLAP, performance tuning for high-end hardware and storage
  • Maintain responsibility for global data definitions used in the Data Warehouse
  • Integrate data from multiple source systems into Data Warehouse
  • Adhere to standards for Data Warehouse, including security, archiving, backup, and recovery
  • Participate in architectural decisions for data transitions from source to staging to ODS to EDW
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with team members and supervisors
  • Identify system and process issues then engage the team in problem solving
  • Plan and participate in cross-training with team members
  • Develop technical skills comparable to other developers
  • Fill in for other developers as requested
  • Recognize accomplishments and contributions of team members
  • Promote an image of a high quality organization through expertise and responsiveness
  • Take responsibility for assignment completion and follow-through
  • Provide high level of customer service
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with internal and external customers

Qualifications:Qualifications
  • 8+ years of IT experience
    • 5+ years of Data Warehouse experience
    • 5+ years of experience with extraction, transformation, and loading tools and development of strategies for loading data into production enterprise Data Warehouse
    • 5+ years of Data Warehouse development experience
    • 3+ years of production experience in an Oracle enterprise Data Warehouse
    • 3+ years of Data Stage ETL experience
    • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from executives, directors, managers, clients and customers
    • Must have dimensional modeling skills at the conceptual, logical, and physical levels, and experience documenting data models
    • Ability to work in a rapid-development environment
    • Ability to work closely with customers in analyzing requirements
    • Ability to work flexible hours
    • Project management and technical leadership
    • Strong communication skills, written and spoken
    • Comfortable working independently, but has experience working in a team environment
    • Skills establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with clients and staff
    • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English required
    • Can discern when escalation is needed
    • Experience in Agile / SCRUM with sprint methodologies preferred
    • Finance or Automotive Industry experience preferred
    • BS and 6 + years or equivalent
