Job Description

The field of automation involves the creation and application of technology to monitor or control the production and delivery of products and services. Equipment & Automation Engineers design, program, simulate, and test automated machinery and processes in order to complete exact tasks.

In this visible and diverse role, you will provide hands-on production equipment support, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining essential robotics and automation machinery. You will manage capital equipment and improvements projects, as well as work closely with vendors, contractors, AMEs, and maintenance technicians.

Responsibilities:
  • Program and debug robots and PLC, including end of arm tooling, SRPs, tool exchangers, fluid dispensing, hemming, MIG welding, vision systems, AGV, AGC, and all automated equipment.
  • Provide technical support and develop technician skills.
  • Evaluate and approve designs based on function, quality, and cost.
  • Install, calibrate, operate, and maintain automated equipment.
  • Work closely and independently with engineering, manufacturing, quality, finance, contractors, and vendors to develop the best plan for future and current equipment installation or modification (cost estimation, planning, administration, procurement, verification, and handing over).
  • Integrate equipment with peripherals, such as welders, controllers, or other equipment.
  • Maintain operational records and create back-ups of equipment programs and parameters.
  • Prepare equipment operational reports.
  • Establish baseline performance and capability of each system and drive actions to maintain or improve performance.
  • Generate and maintain equipment maintenance specifications to assist maintenance technicians.
  • Responsible for execution and follow up of equipment-FMEA.
  • Drive other projects as needed by management or as business needs change.
  • Other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, robotics, automation, or other relevant engineering and technology disciplines with 5+ years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Lean manufacturing skills (autonomation, poka-yoke, man/machine, cycle time/takt time, etc.)
  • 5+ years of manufacturing experience (automotive preferred).
  • 2 to 4 years advance level robot programming experience (Dürr, Fanuc, ABB preferred).
  • 2 to 4 years advance level PLC programming experience (AB, Siemens, Omron preferred).
  • Paint Shop experience strongly preferred.
  • Proficient computer skills (working knowledge of AutoCAD, Catia).
  • Proficient analytical skills.
  • Fluent in English; additional languages are a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001:2015) and Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001:2015), as applicable.
