The Health Center seeks candidates for the position of full-time Epidemiologist. Epidemiologists perform specialized epidemiological work in the investigation, analysis, prevention, and control of injuries, communicable, chronic, or environmentally induced diseases

Position Status: Full-time employee. This position is eligible for a partial remote work schedule following a six-month training period.

Pay Rate: DOQ (depends on qualifications, see below)

Duties include:

  • Assists in the design of and/or conducts epidemiologic studies of disease or injury occurrence, including evaluation of behavioral and/or clinical interventions
  • Takes the lead with the development of intervention strategies, policies and procedures, and the evaluation of new and existing prevention and control programs based on epidemiologic findings
  • Reviews and evaluates chronic and communicable diseases, injury and environmental health reporting and surveillance systems, and advises program administrators of important incidence and/or prevalence changes within reporting areas
  • Conducts on-going epidemiologic studies to investigate, identify and analyze incidence, prevalence, trends and causes of injuries or communicable, chronic or environmentally induced diseases
  • Conducts or assists in in-depth investigations of disease clusters using epidemiologic methods, including gathering information and/or biological specimens
  • Conducts field interviews of case, potential case, and control subjects, and others to ascertain disease incidence and/or prevalence, as needed
  • Assists in developing SOPs, Policies and Community and/or County Health assessments and profiles
  • Maintains contact with community physicians, hospital staff, and other health care professionals or appropriate professionals to encourage proper reporting of injuries and communicable/chronic, or environmentally induced diseases and conditions
  • Communicates with health care providers, social service agencies, schools, state, regional, and local officials, and others concerning disease and injury investigation, prevention, and control
  • Conducts epidemiologic investigations, surveys, and special studies relating to public health, including assessment of risk behaviors or continuing risk of exposure to specific agents
  • Conducts evaluations of control measures related to communicable, chronic, or environmentally induced diseases or injuries
  • Prepares investigation reports, statistical analyses, and summaries on completed epidemiologic studies/evaluations and maintains accurate and organized work records
  • Works closely with the Program Manager/Section Chief as assigned to prepare grant applications, research reports, and other public health documents
  • Trains staff to assist with the above-mentioned duties
  • Exercises significant independence and initiative in the performance of responsibilities; receives general administrative direction
  • Analyzes and interprets epidemiologic data and assesses disease outbreaks to make appropriate decisions
  • Prepares scientific articles, to make presentations for professional groups, and to clearly communicate the findings of epidemiologic studies
  • Proactively provides feedback for improvements that improve quality, efficiency, cost savings, productivity, systems, and/or procedures
  • Maintains strict confidentiality; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations
  • Reports for special assigned duties during a public health emergency, if applicable
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university with two or more years experience in chronic disease, communicable disease, injury control, environmental epidemiology, or infection control with emphasis on disease investigation and risk assessment and experience in data collection and analysis is required; a Master’s Degree from in epidemiology, public health or related field with one or more years of professional experience in chronic disease, communicable disease, injury control, environmental epidemiology, or infection control, which included disease or injury investigation and risk assessment is preferred.
  • Excellent communication, computer, and attention to detail skills are required
  • A current driver’s license and auto insurance are required
