Scheduled Salary Increase: 3.0% effective 11/14/22 APPLICATIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED ONLINE ONLY The Fresno County Department of Public Health has an exciting career opportunity for individuals interested in an Environmental Health Specialist Trainee position. Incumbents in this classification receive training in and learn how to conduct inspections, investigations, and evaluations of environmental health conditions within Fresno County. Environmental Health Specialist Trainee is the pre-entry level classification and permanent status cannot be obtained in this classification. Additionally, incumbents must obtain certification as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist and advance to the Environmental Health Specialist I classification within three (3) years from the date of initial employment as required by the State of California, Health and Safety Code Section 106625, or separate from County service. This three (3) year period includes any time employed as an Environmental Health Specialist Trainee with other Agencies. Please note: The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill both extra-help and permanently allocated positions as vacancies occur. Individuals selected for extra-help appointment may be transitioned to a permanently allocated position at a later date as authorized by the Fresno County Personnel Rules. Positions in this classification are in Medical Group III - Heavy Physical Activity (Personnel Rule 8). This group includes positions which require heavy physical effort using arms, legs, back and trunk in frequent lifting, pushing, or pulling objects weighing (or offering resistance equivalent to) over 25 pounds. Generally, considerable bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, as well as standing and walking are involved. Physical stamina is usually required and explosive strength using bursts of energy may be required, depending upon specific position assignments. Eligible candidates must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree that is acceptable to the State of California, Department of Public Health for certification as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist.A current evaluation letter from the State of California, Department of Public Health, stating that the education qualifications specified in the State of California, Health and Safety Code Sections 106660 and 106635 have been met.A copy of this evaluation letter is required and must be submitted by the closing date and time of this recruitment.
