We are seeking a highly motivated, experienced Engineering Skills and Training Development Specialist to join our team.

Avalara is seeking a coding bootcamp instructor who wants to join an international, fast-growing Engineering division, and create a robust program for immersing new hires across the globe in our tech stack, coding best practices, and architecture framework.

Avalara's ambitious mission is to be a part of every transaction in the world. As governments increase their demands on businesses to be tax compliant, this means developing cutting-edge technology to process millions of sales on-demand and populate tax returns all over the world. We need to ramp up new software developers and testers in an efficient manner.

The objective of the Coding Bootcamp Instructor role is to educate all new technical hires in our preferred technologies and most-used coding languages and to develop test environments that facilitate effective training in our data, storage, UIs, infrastructure, code review standards, and code bases.

Responsibilities include:

  • Become knowledgeable in our tech stack and products / services
  • Develop special projects for each new hire to execute in lower test environments, as well as the curriculum needed for each hire in our various functional areas based on the technologies, languages, and platforms they leverage
  • Enroll each applicable person into the bootcamp program
  • Host live bootcamp workshops in other time zones
  • Guide students through internal processes and standards
  • Further document and educate students on coding principles and best practices
  • Assess participation and the quality of deliverables; report on the attitude and effort of each employee to their hiring manager
  • Generate platform development and curriculum feedback; continuously incorporate improvements to the participant experience
