The Emerson Prison Initiative (EPI) provides an Emerson BA degree pathway to incarcerated students at MCI Concord, a men's medium-security state prison.

The EPI Program Coordinator will likely begin as a part-time position, 20+ hours per week with benefits, with the possibility of expanding to full time (36.25 hours per week) in the future depending on performance, re-entry numbers, and finances.

  • With respect to general Program support: assist with maintaining student academic records and transfer credit processes; coordinate logistics for faculty preparing to teach for EPI; coordinate EPI events; interface with the Department of Correction in coordinating academic programming; and work with students and community member volunteers.

Key Partners:
  • EPI Assistant Director Cara Moyer-Duncan and members of the EPI Advisory Council. This position will build a network of key partners in reentry work, as well as liaise with many EPI partners that are involved with program delivery. Coordination within and amongst Department of Corrections staff and academic affairs staff will also be involved, including Marlboro Institute staff.

Candidate Qualifications (required):
  • Strong writing and communication skills.
  • Strong Organizational skills.
  • Strong people skills and ability to network and build partnerships at both grassroots and institutional levels.
  • Independent, self-starting work ethos as demonstrated by past achievements.

  • Ability to manage budgets (including financial reporting).
  • Ability to produce memos, reports, and media about the reentry program for both internal and public-facing use.
  • Ability to manage volunteers, both Emerson students and those in the community who may volunteer their time to support reentry work or other EPI programs.
  • Ablility to collaborate with Emerson staff and administration as needed for all aspects of reentry support, academic programming, and EPI related events.

The successful candidate will be:
  • Self-motivated, and able to independently manage their time and workload.
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism, particularly in relation to confidentiality, clear communication, and consistent follow-through on deadlines and project goals.
