Job Description
The Literacy Specialist/Coach collaborates with classroom teachers to provide learning experiences in literacy to students, guided by the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, district standards and requirements. He/She will provide instructional leadership, teacher professional development and instructional coaching support to faculty and staff. Additionally he/she will work directly with teachers to provide classroom and small group instruction, collaborative and one-on-one support while focusing on enhancing a teachers ability to provide targeted instruction that builds students sense of engagement in the ownership of learning. He/She collaborates with the principals to ensure a cohesive, rigorous academic program that engages all students.

Responsibilities: Develop and lead a consistent approach to literacy instruction and assessment throughout the district. Build strong relationships and professional rapport with teachers, administrators, and other staff members Create an articulated schedule to meet with individual teachers in cycles of inquiry and reflective practice Meet with the school and district leadership team to coordinate K-5 instruction o Model lessons that utilize best teaching practices in differentiation and instruction using literacy skills and strategies Provide direct support to all classroom teachers in implementing standards-based instructional and assessment practices through consultation, coaching, and the maintenance of active professional learning communities Support student academic transition between grade levels and schools Work with principals and teachers to develop and implement appropriate professional development opportunities Set measurable improvement goals for increased student achievement based on assessment data and observation. Serve as a member of the Principals leadership team and school and district data teams o Assist new teachers and teachers new to a grade level through regular consultation and coaching Ability to assess reading strengths and needs of students while providing appropriate differentiated instruction Ability to identify each childs strengths, weaknesses and interest, to engage and motivate the childCommunicate assessment results to parents, teachers, and administration, Knowledge of various assessment tools Administer and analyzing diagnostic tests Ability to work collaboratively with teachers in other contents in special areas (SPED, ELL, etc) A working knowledge of Special Education (SPED) and English Learners (EL) in order to work with these students Ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team of educators A positive person, willing to become consistently involved in all academic and social aspects of school life to support student success, school spirit, and school climate and culture Undertake any other duty as specified by the principal and/or assistant superintendent
