Job Description

Position Summary: The Electrician reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor. The
Electrician performs various skilled tasks in the testing, installation, maintenance, and repair of
electrical parts, machinery, devices, and equipment for all facilities on campus. The Electrician
receives assignments orally and through written instructions, via the FMX work order system.
This position is expected to provide the knowledge and skills necessary to create a safe, working
environment for all persons occupying the various facilities. The Electrician aids the College
with saving energy and offer options for improvement on current systems. The Maintenance
Supervisor or an Administrator will review all work performed by this position.

Experience/Qualifications:
  • Learn locations of all the College’s electrical equipment and how they relate to each
building.
  • Inspect, assemble, evaluate, test, and preserve all electrical equipment, machinery, and

other varied electrical fixtures. Ensure all work completed in compliance with NEC
safety standards.

  • Be vigilante in identifying any potential problems for repair of equipment, machinery,
devices, etc. as needed, and keep all electrical closets clean, safe, and free of any
potential hazards.
  • Perform necessary preventative, scheduled, and deferred maintenance of electrical
equipment and maintain proper records of such.
  • Troubleshoot electrical issues using appropriate testing devices.
  • Read and interpret electrical and electronic circuit blueprints, diagrams, and schematics.
  • Make recommendations to the Maintenance Supervisor and/or Administrator as needed in
order to better sustain and maintain electrical equipment, machinery, devices, etc.
  • Make orders for electrical supplies and equipment as needed to complete tasks and
assignments.
  • Complete and close out work orders in the FMX Work Order System in a timely manner.
  • Fulfill any other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Two-year electrical, technical, or related degree.
  • Completion of an electrical apprenticeship.
  • Preferred experience of at least 5 years or more as an electrician or electrical technician.
  • Have a complete understanding of NEC safety standards in order to adhere to them.
  • Excellent problem-solving and customer service skills.
  • Basic knowledge of computer operation for use the FMX work order system.
  • Ability to climb, stoop, balance, crouch, crawl/kneel regularly.
  • Self-motivated with strong ability to follow instructions and work alone, but also be able
to work effectively within a team.
