Purpose and Essential Duties:


The Electrical Foreman’s work will consist of project installations, alterations, additions and/or repairs of electrical systems, conductors and associated materials and equipment within the residential, commercial and industrial electrical industry. The incumbent of this position is accountable for the on-site management of assigned construction Projects, Trade Contractors and its field labor, in such a way as to ensure schedule completion of the project within established budget, time and quality standards, performance, and customer satisfaction of these projects. This position is responsible for reviewing project documents; plans and specification’s; directing construction activities; resolving construction difficulties; coordinating field installations and project closings; and developing of maintaining client relationships, all within project cost, time and quality standards and standard operating procedures.


  • Attends, coordinates or conducts meeting and activities with assigned employees/crew to meet project objectives and work schedules.
  • Oversees, delegates and monitors all assigned employees’ performance on assigned project/task that ensures compliance to project plans, specifications and shop drawings.
  • Guides and assists employees in identifying, analyzing and resolving existing or anticipated obstacles in a manner to meet task/project schedules.
  • Informs, clarifies and confers as directed by Superintendent / Project Manager on estimated, actual status, i.e. work progress, work schedules, time sheets, job costing, etc.
  • Works with Superintendent / Project Manager in personnel alignment and scheduling to facilitate weekly action plans.
  • Leads, motivates, coaches and develops assigned employees technical methods by giving accurate a non-bias job performance appraisal.
  • Cultivates a working relationship with managers, supervisors, fellow workers and customers that encourage a cooperative environment.
  • Has knowledge, safety knowledge and ability to work with live/energized circuits.
  • Reviews and Interprets Blueprints/Shop Drawings, Charts, Graphs, and Logic Diagrams.
  • Knowledge of use of degrees in bending conduit (i.e. concentric bending.).
  • Knowledge of Building Construction: concrete, masonry, metal and stick construction methods.
  • Experience in terminations. (i.e. both aluminum and copper, twisted pair cable, terminating coaxial cable).
  • Ability to add, subtracts, divide and use electrical formulas accurately.
  • Perform work at various heights, up to 90’ from ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, cat walks, roofs or other safe work areas.
  • Work in restrictive/tight areas. (i.e. switchgear rooms, craw spaces, utility tunnels, etc.).
  • Must be cable of digging trenches, either by use of hand tools or equipment.
  • Accurately read labels, job site maps/directions, manuals and written instructions.
  • Direct/train helpers, apprentices and foreman in proper work practices.
  • Employee must understand and follow the NEC.
  • Must have knowledge of: Properly implement grounding practices, Transformer Protection/Connections, Insulating Oils & Overcurrent Protection, Parallel circuits, Fuse Operate Circuit Breakers, Motors, Inductance and Capacitance Power factors.
  • Have skills to accurately direct the work of level 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 workers to meet production.
  • Must have ability & knowledge to properly give “hand signals” to operators.
  • Knowledge of and effects of soil conditions on underground cables.
  • Ability and knowledge of: Security Systems, Fire Alarm systems, Process Controllers & Control Loops, Air conditioning & Environmental Controls and semi Conductors Electronics.
  • Understand the Proper use/selection of cables for proper installation per NEC. (i.e. Determine conductor size, telephone, twisted pair, coaxial, data, etc.)
  • Understanding and enforcement of OSHA requirements.
  • Understanding of mechanical systems that interface with electrical work to provide safe operating systems.
  • Set by example company acceptable work practices that will be emulated by fellow employees.
  • Waits for supervisors’ approval prior to crew installation of requested changes or extras.
  • Monitor material and tools, equipment so they can be accurately ordered or scheduled.
  • Reports to supervisor any illegal activities occurring on work site.
  • Report accidents or incidents to the Safety Director in a timely manner as outlined per Company Policy Manual.
  • Assigns field employees to project task based upon individual’s ability and experience.
  • Corresponds with and maintains accurate project documentation if assigned:(i.e. time sheets, progress reports, performance appraisals, job costing, daily logs, etc.).
  • Inspects subcontractor’s performance to conform to contract agreements and schedules.
  • Conducts project closing and up-dates punch list & creates info for record drawings.
  • Job may require working in all elements, depending on job location, time of year, heat, cold, rain or snow.
  • Must be able to utilize construction site sanitary facilities. (Porta-Johns).
  • Job requires employee to have required hand tools with them at all times while at work site (Waist tool belts can weigh up to 30 lbs.).
  • Must be able to work from all type of ladders. (Step ladders up to 14’, “A” frame ladders and all size extension ladders and must be able to carry and relocate 12’ stepladder by one’s self). Note: employee personal weight and personal tools cannot exceed weight limits of the ladder. (class 1 – 250 lbs., class 1A – 300 lbs.).
  • Must wear personnel protective equipment at all times. (i.e. hard hats, safety glasses, safety harnesses as required) and respirators when required.
  • Repetitive use of arms, hands and fingers.
  • Ability to work 10 hours per day, night shift, 40 hours per week and overtime as required with little or on short notice.
  • This position may work with energized circuits or in/with energized equipment.
  • Must work smoothly with others as a member of a team to complete tasks.
  • Ability to work in noisy environments.
  • Ability to remain calm in times of heighten emotional situations.
  • Must have knowledge, certification and ability to perform First aid, CPR and Emergency rescue if ever necessary.
  • Takes disciplinary action toward subordinates consistent with Company policies and procedures.
  • Cultivates new business relationships and maintains existing relationships with Clients.


This position is Full Time, Exempt (for purposes of the FLSA), and reports to the Supervisor / Project Manager and interacts with other field personnel, support staff (e.g. Estimating, Accounting and Finance, and other Corporate Services Staff).


Required Education, Experience and Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 4 or more years of experience and meets requirements.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, craw, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull, and reach overhead.
  • Ability to lift by ones self-work loads of 51 lbs.
  • Climb ladders of all types.
  • Possess good vision/hearing. (Normal or corrected).
  • Must be able to make transition from employee parking area of street into construction areas and to gain access to all levels of the building or structure, even if the only means of access is by OSHA approved site construction ladder or stairs still under construction but acceptable for use.
  • Ability to work while constantly moving on one’s feet.
  • Ability to reach and stretch to position equipment and fixtures while maintaining balance.
  • Must have ability of use of both hands simultaneously for tying knots and in the use of power equipment.
