Job Description
Progeny is seeking a mid-level electrical engineer to be part of the team responsible for the design, development, production, integration and life cycle support of embedded system electronics in Torpedo Systems Group (TSG) products used aboard Navy submarines, ships, and aircraft. The TSG designs, develops, demonstrates, produces, assembles, tests and delivers torpedo SONAR arrays and electronic assemblies. The TSG team works with the Navy, internal production staff and the representatives from other companies to advance torpedo performance and lower production costs.

Duties

Be part of a team comprised of design, system engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and production associates to develop embedded systems. Duties include:

  • Design, simulate and implement embedded systems
  • Perform component and architecture trade studies to determine optimal system solutions
  • Document and present trade studies, analyses, test results, status, etc. to the team
  • Generate design and interface documentation
  • Design and develop software and firmware for embedded processor and FPGA based systems
  • Integrate, test, troubleshoot, and verify hardware & firmware
  • Develop test criteria and assist in the design of test systems including test software applications
  • Develop technical presentations, recommendations, and written communications to explain technical issues to program management and the Navy customer team.

6.5.0 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Candidates should:

  • Have technical acumen, an educational background and expertise in embedded systems design, development and troubleshooting
    • Experience with electronics troubleshooting a plus
  • Have experience in FPGA design, VHDL design and verification (Microsemi/Actel development environment, and soft-core processors)
    • Experience with low-level network packet generation and analysis is a plus
    • Experience with PCI Express, especially within a multiple initiator application, is a plus
    • Experience with embedded operating systems on FPGAs is a plus
    • Experience with software interfaces to hardware (such as Linux devices drivers) is a plus
  • Have experience with schematic entry using OrCAD Capture (or similar)
    • Experience with analog signal conditioning, data acquisition, and power regulators is a plus
  • Have strong documentation and writing skills
    • Experience with oral presentations is a plus
      • Be able to rapidly adapt to handling electronic system technical issues found in system integration labs, field environments and during production

      Education/Experience

      B.S. (or higher) degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field (or equivalent experience) required

      5+ years of engineering experience required

This position requires the applicant to obtain and maintain a DoD Clearance.
