Job DescriptionThe successful candidate will assist the COMBAT SHIELD team in the 53d Electronic Warfare Group (53 EWG), 53d Wing, at Eglin AFB, Florida. The 53 EWG is the technical focal point for all electronic warfare (EW) support of warfighter systems for the Combat Air Forces (CAF). The mission of the 53 EWG is to develop and test aircraft EW systems and capabilities used to defeat enemy radar and infrared guided missile systems, thus enhancing aircrew and aircraft survivability in combat. COMBAT SHIELD is an EW assessment program used to determine the electronic combat readiness of fighter, rescue, and bomber aircraft, focusing on radar warning receivers, external and internal jamming systems, HARM targeting systems, and infrared countermeasure
This highly compensated position entails identifying and mitigating cyber vulnerabilities in US Air Force (USAF) aircraft, including systems used in mission planning, operations, aircraft maintenance, and debriefing. Because this mission is new to the USAF the successful candidate will develop the strategy, vision, roadmap and execution plan to be used USAF wide for the operational assessment of cyber vulnerabilities in aircraft.

Job Duties
  • The successful candidate will conduct research, develop test plans, execute field testing, analyze data and report results.
  • This person will lead a small team that travels to operational units worldwide (including Europe and Asia) providing recommendations to USAF senior leaders on cyber vulnerabilities, mitigation procedures and best practices, and will provide the Air Force Chief of Staff an annual assessment on the vulnerability of USAF aircraft to cyber attack.
  • As a result, the successful candidate must have strong leadership, organizational and communication skills.
Here’s What You’ll Need:
Education and Experience:Bachelor of Science degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, or any engineering discipline with computer science experience plus 5 years of directly related experience or any equivalent combination of education, experience, training and certifications.

Required Skills
  • Experience with EW systems on 5th Generation fighter aircraft is highly desired.
  • Candidates must also have a demonstrated ability to recognize and analyze problems, conduct research, summarize results, and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Prior demonstrated ability to complete projects independently is required.
  • Applicants must have proficiency in software development and possess the ability to communicate effectively both orally and written.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity and penetration testing including hardware, network, and software requirements definition, planning and test design.
  • Knowledge in the execution of hands-on testing of system software and a working knowledge of Windows, UNIX and Linux operating systems
  • Knowledge in developing tools and strategies for cybersecurity testing as well as performing system security analysis on systems related to military aircraft
  • Knowledge in the application of engineering expertise, systems theory and equipment operation specific to radar, radar warning receivers, missile warning systems, active countermeasures, fundamentals of aircraft avionics, systems development, test and evaluation, and systems engineering and integration, to assist teams in designing and conducting comprehensive studies, and developing solutions to problems.
  • Knowledge of Blue and/or Red Team penetration testing and vulnerability exploitation to identify design gaps.
  • The ability to analyze and evaluate the design and operating effectiveness of IT and security controls to secure systems from intentional or inadvertent modification, and to evaluate established practices against regulatory and industry benchmarks
Required Clearance:
  • Candidates must possess an active Secret clearance and be able to obtain a Top Secret security clearance.

Physical RequirementsWork may involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Position may require filing, typing, and reading from a computer screen. Must have sufficient mobility, included but not limited to: bending, reaching, turning and kneeling to complete daily duties in a timely and efficient manner. There is a possibility that due to parking availability and location of work, walking moderate to long distances may be required. Work EnvironmentAn inside and outside environment (considerations: closed quarters, close together, lighting). Needs to be able to work well with co-workers and all levels of management. No hazards on job or unusual environmental conditions. Equipment and MachinesAbility to operate office equipment such as a personal computer, printer, copy machine, telephone, fax machine and other equipment including desk supplies and other work related tools as required. AttendanceRegular hours will be between Monday-Friday 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Regular attendance of scheduled hours is extremely important, but not critical, except for deadlines and meetings. Punctuality and regular attendance are necessary to meet deadlines. Must exhibit flexibility of work hours to adjust to surge situations based on critical mission requirements. Other Essential FunctionsMust demonstrate professional behavior at all times when dealing with customers, management and co-workers. Must have clear, concise and accurate communications skills in English, both verbal and written. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk to employees or others. Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a professional manner. Independent personal transportation to office or work site is required. Travel to and from customer’s locations and the test fields may be required to support projects. This may involve airline travel. In some cases, accommodations can possibly be made for POV, if necessary. When operating any vehicle for work purposes, must wear seat belt and in addition, no cellular devices are to be used when vehicle is in motion.
