Job Description

OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Educational and Behavioral Specialist is responsible for intervention plan coordination of an assigned caseload, acts as a coordinator, teacher and assistant in the therapeutic school, and manages student behavior and conduct.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: High school diploma.
  • Certification: Please attach any relevant current certifications or training awards to your application.
  • Experience: One year of work experience with youth with emotional disturbance, neurological, and/or behavior disorders.
  • Availability: Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. 4:30 p.m.
  • Driver's License: Valid Oregon Driver's License, acceptable record, and insurability under Agency's auto insurance.
  • Ability to:
    • Ability to perform physical labor duties, which can include lifting, pushing, and pulling weights up to 30 lbs. (e.g., computers, notebooks, supplies, and pushing or pulling doors open and closed).
    • Ability to quickly respond to unpredictable student behaviors (e.g., following a student who leaves class unexpectedly).
    • Ability to work effectively as a member of an integrated team.
    • Ability to relate effectively with youth, parents, community, and referral sources.
    • Ability to work in a stressful environment and maintain a positive mental attitude.
    • Good communication and writing skills.
    • Microsoft and Word computer experience and ability to use E-mail, Intranet and Internet.
    • Cultural sensitivity and experience working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates degree or bachelor's degree in a behavioral science field.
  • Understanding of counseling practices.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides social skill development, behavior management, support and supervision of students, individually and in groups, throughout the daily structure of Center Point School.
  • Acts as a coordinator of student services:
    • Develops, plans, documents, and leads focus groups and checkouts with assigned students.
    • Assists in writing intervention plans with youth, families, caseworkers, and program staff.
    • Assists students in working towards, and evaluating, goals and objectives of intervention plans.
    • Develops and implements incentive plans and consequence/reward systems.
    • Documents behaviors in student notebooks, group notes, daily progress summaries, etc.
    • Writes quarterly reports in compliance with regulations and required deadlines.
    • Provides back-up student services for assigned co-workers as needed.
    • Ensures continuity of program services through communication with all program staff.
    • Maintains contact with parents/guardians.
  • Acts as assistant in academic, social skill development, and/or elective classes as assigned.
    • Provides instructional/individual assistance to students during classes.
    • Documents student behaviors and staff interventions in accordance with program standards and regulations.
    • Writes group notes in accordance with program standards and regulations as assigned.
    • Communicates attendance, behavior, and classroom progress to other program staff as appropriate.
    • Assists with general administrative duties, e.g., supplies, inventory, and copying.
    • Monitors and supervises computer use for potential problems or misuse; reports to teacher.
  • When assigned, acts as an assistant in therapy groups.
    • Assists with the development and implementation of curriculum as requested.
    • Provides instructional/individual assistance during groups.
    • Documents student behaviors and staff interventions in accordance with program standards and regulations.
    • Communicates attendance, behavior, and treatment progress to other program staff as appropriate.
  • Designs and teaches one or more elective classes per week, as assigned.
  • Acts as a positive role model.
  • Attends regular supervision meetings with the Educational and Behavioral Specialist Supervisor.
  • Attends weekly staff meetings; provides input regarding observations of student progress, assessments, etc.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands, talk, and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 45 pounds.
