Job Description

The Alaska Area Health Education Center (AHEC) program provides a pathway for students to prepare for and enter into healthcare careers, leading them into the workforce and supporting their continued development. Seeking applications for the Education Coordinator position.

Duties:

30Planning, coordination and logistics of interprofessional education (IPE) opportunities: - Grand Round Events -IPE Simulation Conference -IPE Course Scholarships -College of Health IPE Committee This entails coordination with UA health programs and faculty across the state and may include supervision of student worker to assist with accomplishment of these responsibilities.Essential 70Planning and coordination of AHEC Scholars Program and Rural Immersion Institute of the North (RIIN). This includes: - Upkeep, maintenance and tracking of student progress via Blackboard and Slack. - Supporting logistics and coordination of Community Based Learning Experiences with College of Health Faculty and regional AHEC Centers. - Review of external and elective didactic content for meeting AHEC Scholars requirements. - Coordination of application procedures and reviews for AHEC Scholars and RIIN. - Student recruitment. - Coordination of RIIN experience including events, recreation and support services for participants. - Development of relationships with facilities for urban/underserved placement sites.Essential

Position: Education Coordinator; UAA Alaska Center for Rural Health

The AHEC program has recently launched the AHEC Scholars program, a statewide program in compliance with federal Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) funding for AHECs across the nation. This position will be the lead in coordination of the AHEC Scholars program which aims to engage and expose health program students to rural and underserved healthcare practice. The position will also be the lead in coordination of the Rural Immersion Institute of the North, a social enterprise program similar to the AHEC Scholars program but targeting students who reside outside the state of Alaska but are interested in exposure to rural and tribal health systems and practice. In addition, the position directly supports College of Health Interprofessional Education (IPE) activities.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to perform all aspects of coordination of the program, defining objectives, priorities, and deadlines based on program objectives.
  • Ability to analyze complex situations and make responsible decisions.
  • General office practices, procedures, and equipment, file maintenance, software knowledge and skills, i.e., Microsoft office suite, website maintenance, organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Experience with Blackboard learning management system
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal relations.
  • Ability to lead or supervise staff, including planning and organizing work and scheduling, training and directing and reviewing work of others.
  • Ability to analyze complex situations and make responsible decisions.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of Healthcare industry.
  • Experience with grant proposals and development.
  • Experience with students of all ages.

Typical Experience:

Three years progressively responsible experience in education, public health or related field.

Required Education or Training:

Three years college coursework and three years progressively responsible experience related to the program specialty, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Bachelor's degree in education, public health or related field is preferred.

Special Condition of Employment:
Willingness to travel to remote communities as needed.

This is a full-time, term-funded, Grade 79, minimum $26.08/hr, DOE, 12-month position complete with a competitive salary and UA employee benefits package.
