Job Description

If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL.

We are seeking an established remote sensing scientist to help us develop new programs in ocean remote sensing, with a focus on, but not exclusive to, ocean color, coastal and inland ecosystem remote sensing, and calibration and validation. Opportunities for growth also include other aspects of Earth remote sensing, as well as planetary science. The position involves developing both basic research and analysis projects and space mission concepts. The successful applicant will be expected to work in a team environment that includes other scientists, engineers, and data analysts.

As an ocean remote sensing scientist.

  • Your primary responsibility will be to cultivate and lead a basic research program in Earth remote sensing as a Principal Investigator.
  • You will engage sponsors directly and write proposals.
  • You will lead and participate in the development of space mission concepts and proposals.
  • You will share your work through papers, presentations, and reports.
  • You will be a thought leader at APL and in the scientific community.
  • You will play an integral role in developing an Earth science strategy that leads to critical contributions to pressing national challenges.
  • You will mentor other staff.

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you.

  • PhD or equivalent in an Earth science field
  • At least ten years of Earth science research experience
  • Strong publication record
  • Strong record of capturing research funding
  • Demonstrable experience as a leader within the remote sensing community
  • Are willing and able to travel and participate in conferences
