    Lake Forest School District TITLE: Early Childhood Educator/Pre-Kindergarten (10 Month Contract with an additional 19 days) - Temporary for Remainder of SY 21-22QUALIFICATIONS: Must meet the certification requirements of the State of Delaware Department of Education
    REPORTS TO: Building Principal (or Assistant)
    JOB GOAL: The Early Childhood Educator/Pre-Kindergarten provides developmental screening, assessment, and developmental services to children in a Pre-Kindergarten classroom. In addition, the Early Childhood Educator/Pre-Kindergarten serves as a consultant to both public school special education and community programs, and oversees Child Find in the school district.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Provides learning experiences in language arts, social studies, pre-reading, arithmetic, science, art, physical education, and music to pupils, using the course of study adopted by the Board of Education, and other appropriate learning activities.
    • Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
    • Develops and uses instructional materials suitable for verbal or visual instruction of pupils with wide range of mental, physical and emotional maturities.
    • Provides individual and group instruction designed to meet individual needs and help the pupils make a satisfactory transition to school.
    • Establishes and maintains standard of pupil behavior needed to achieve effective participation in all activities without interfering with the naturally informal atmosphere of kindergarten.
    • Evaluates academic and social growth of pupils, and keeps appropriate records.
    • Communicates with parents through a variety of means.Holds parent conference to discuss the individual pupil's progress and interprets the school program.
    • Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
    • Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
    • Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
    • Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids; maintains required inventory needs.
    • Ensures a comfortable room environment through control of heating, lighting, and ventilation to the extent possible.
    • Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
    • Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs as required.
    • Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of pupil activities.
    • Conducts screening and developmental evaluations to assist in the identification of special needs children of pre-kindergarten age.
    • Participates in implementing an interagency program for special needs and high-risk children and their families.
    • Oversees and implements Child Find in the school district.
    • Administer, train others, and interprets DIAL screening results to help determine student placement.
    • Coordinate, assess, process referrals, and oversee appropriate placement for all children between the ages of birth to five years who reside in the district and are in need of special services.
    • Works with medical personnel. Programs in neighboring districts, community and state agencies in identification, referral, and placement process for preschool children.
    • Monitor progress of special needs preschool children in alternative settings.
    • Assist in determining appropriate placement for transitioning preschool students.
    • Other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor that pertain to the position of Kindergarten Teacher.
    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten-month year plus an additional 19 days. Salary and work year to be established by the Board.
    EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy of Evaluation and Department of Education guidelines.
