Job Description

JOB SUMMARY: Arrange for the efficient and orderly admission of individuals being admitted for procedures at Creekside. Ensures that the patient information is collected, entered into the hospital computer system accurately and that all patients are aware of hospital admissions procedures. Interviews incoming patient or patient’s representative and enters information required for admission correctly into the computer. Distributes appropriate information to all ancillary departments. Must maintain a 95% accuracy rate quarterly on all admissions. Carries out basic care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse in accordance with the standards of care for the center. Demonstrates the appropriate skills and ability, based on level of training and scope of practice.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Admitting/Unit Clerk/Certified Nurse Assistant


1. Responsible for pre-registering patients for scheduled admissions and outpatient procedures, obtaining personal information or verifying information already on file, including emergency numbers and insurance information.
2. Responsible for obtaining signature on Conditions of Admission and initiating the Advanced Directive process.
3. Communicates appropriately and clearly to the supervisor, nurse managers, coworkers and physicians.
4. Receive patient payments on admission and discharge. Maintains department records, reports, and files as required.
5. Responsible, when previous arrangements have been made or a co-payment is required, to collect such payments and record payment.
6. Responsible for knowing hospital policies and being familiar with hospital services that are available.
7. Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organize, and function well in stressful situations.
8. Demonstrates awareness of and sensitivity to patient and family rights, as identified by the center.
9. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity; ensures confidentiality of patients’ records.
10. Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
11. Maintains standards to provide safe, effective care to the patients.
12. Participates in the educational program, completes annual educational requirements, and attends in-service meetings as required.
13. Assists in the care of assigned patients as directed by appropriate nursing staff. Obtain admission Vital signs/discharge Vital signs.
14. Performs efficiently when putting charts together, stocking rooms, stocking linens, recording temperatures on fridge/blanket warmer and assisting with patient care
15. Understand the protocol for responding to emergency situations and the importance of remaining calm in this situation.
16. Attends all other meetings as required.
17. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
18. Accepts and completes other duties as assigned or requested.
19. Must maintain a 95% accuracy rate on quarterly report card.
20. Must maintain accurate time clock punches, punch in and out according to hospital policy.
21. Answers incoming calls to the facility in a professional, timely manner.
22. Must maintain a professional attitude.
23. Responsible admitting walk in patients according to EMTALA guidelines.
24. Responsible when previous arrangements have been made or a co-payment is required to collect such payment and record the payment if unable to collect what is noted to contact supervisor.
25. Complete other clerical duties such as: Answering the phone; Ordering office supplies; Compiling patient’s charts for next day of surgery; Escorting patient’s families through the building and other office duties as directed by the Creekside Supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification: High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Certificate of training for Nurse’s Aide. Must maintain current BLS. Completed Hospital Orientation and all mandatory education and training.
Experience: One to three months related experience and/or training; PACU/ medical surgical preferable but not mandatory.
Equipment/Technology: Ability to use hospital information system, and operate basic computer functions and software.
Language/Communication: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively, before groups of customers and or employees of the organization. Customer service phone etiquette.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions,
and decimals. Ability to compute rate ratios and percentages and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Mental Capabilities: Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Must be able to understand input from the supervisor and/or manager concerning errors and instructions. Will need a better than average attention span in order to listen, read and remember verbal and written instructions. The ability to concentrate for long periods of time.
Interpersonal: Ability to work well with others.
Performance: Basic computer knowledge along with basic knowledge of Cerner. Must be able to handle/defuse conflict issues with patients, their families and staff. Can work well under pressure and meet multiple and competing deadlines.
