Title: DRAINAGE CREW LEADER/OPERATOR FLSA: Non-Exempt
Department: Public Works Storm Drainage Restoration

Job Summary: Under direct supervision Utilities Operations Manager, Crew Leader/Operator is responsible for managing a crew and overseeing job sites. This position trains maintenance workers on job skills and enforces safety practice on job sites. The Crew Leader/Operator is a working supervisor and operates heavy machinery at job sites.

Education/Training/Experience Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Three years experience in water drainage and operating heavy equipment.
A valid Class B Texas commercial driver"s license.

Essential Job Functions:
?Manages job sites.
?Assists in developing daily schedules.
?Trains, develops and assists in evaluating crew personnel.
?Enforces safety practices on job sites.
?Inspects, installs, cleans, maintains and repairs the City's drainage infrastructure.
?Performs a variety of drainage maintenance and construction repairs.
?Maintains heavy equipment to include backhoe, bobcat, track hoe and pulling trailer. Perform proper maintenance of department small equipment.
?Daily repairs on City drainage systems as needed.
?Performs preventative maintenance on all City-owned drainage easements throughout the City.
?Locates and marks water and sewer lines for construction projects.
?Operates heavy machinery and other equipment as needed.
?Works on call.
?Assists during natural disasters and snow events.
?Provides support for City events.
?Assists other Public Works Departments as needed.
?Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge of:
?Concrete and asphalt street maintenance methods.
?Practices and techniques of performing field inspections related to areas of assignment.
?City geography including street locations.
?Department safety rules and procedures.
?General management Practices.

Skills in:
?Operating construction and excavation equipment.
?Supervising a team of employees.
?Working under stress and using good judgment in emergency situations.
?Tactfully responding to requests and inquiries from the general public.
?Establishing effective working relationships with employees.
?Following written and oral instructions.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:
The employee must have the ability to lift, carry, push and/or pull greater than 50 pounds, and may require infrequent lifting of greater than 100 pounds. This position is exposed to extreme elements including extreme heat and/or cold, wet and/or humid conditions, noise intensity level, moving mechanical parts/hazards, dirt/dust, and odors. Ability to work in confined spaces and trenches. Constant use of protective personnel equipment including but not limited to footwear, eyewear, and use of reflective clothing is required. Will work on-call rotation and in an emergency event.
