A DAY IN THE LIFE AS A DRAFTING / CAD TECHNICIAN / DESIGN ENGINEER

As a Drafting / Cad Technician, you produce the product that is the heartbeat of our design process. You keep busy researching recorded documents, drafting complex permit drawings, and providing quality control. Your understanding of the requirements for civil engineering codes helps you excel in this position. You prepare dimensional drawings, installation drawings, and more complex drawings. You also revise and update existing drawings, reflecting design changes as needed. With great attention to detail, you review blueprints, plans, specifications, and other customer documentation. You are conscientious about keeping track of document notes, design calculations, and other materials for future reference.

Though you do spend a lot of time at the computer, you also get to use your excellent communication and interpersonal skills on a regular basis to maintain good working relationships with managers, peers, and customers. You patiently give answers about the planning and design of projects. You maintain an open dialogue with the Project Manager to ensure that all projects are delivered on-time, within scope, within budget, and mistake-free. You even get to work directly with clients, providing service that meets or exceeds expectations. Passionate about staying abreast of changes in the market, the industry, and technology, you attend training, read professional publications, maintain personal networks, and participate in professional organizations.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A DRAFTING / CAD TECHNICIAN / DESIGN ENGINEER

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Advanced computer skills with programs such as Excel, Access, and Outlook
• Well-versed in AutoCAD design software
• Knowledge of commonly used engineering concepts, practices, and procedures

Knowledge of Microstation, Small World, and ESRI GIS platforms is a plus! Are you organized and able to handle multiple projects at a time effectively? Is accuracy important to you?
