Position Summary

As a member of the professional staff, contributes a high level of specialized knowledge and skill in a discipline (e.g. Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, Operations Planning & Support, Sales & Marketing) area to support department and/or function objectives. Generally works with considerable independence, developing operating plans and related operational processes for own department and monitoring the flow of work between own department and others in alignment with broader business objectives, selecting and developing effective managers and work teams, and managing own organization through reliable systems and processes.

Specific Job Summary

The Director of Procurement is responsible for overseeing the comprehensive sourcing and procurement strategy in specific functional areas of the organization (i.e. Resort Operations, IT, Marketing, etc.); driving key stakeholder alignment and supporting successful execution of sourcing and procurement strategies.

Expected Contributions

Develops operating plans and workable business processes for own department in alignment with function strategy.

Specific Expected Contributions

Manage Supplier Relationships
Fully understands stakeholder landscape, understands the role they play and works to maintain relationships in partnership with other members of the MVW organization
Builds and maintains excellent relationships with internal clients and colleagues at all levels. Identifies and formalizes business requirements and challenges into formal evaluation metrics
Engages with business stakeholders to clarify and prioritize potential opportunities across a portfolio of category projects
Follows established reporting and communication structures to ensure all stakeholders are adequately informed. Proactive communication around success stories and lessons learned
Drives an awareness of supplier expectations and requirements within the organization to foster win-win relationships.
Designs category and supplier reporting to effectively manage strategic function performance insights
Supports development of a strategic supply base and maintains key supplier relationships
Works with new and existing suppliers to develop innovative solutions for the business
Develops controls to prevent leakage of value, ensuring cost savings measures are realized and minimizes risks associated with supplier relationships.
Manages supplier performance processes (e.g., Quarterly Business Views, Corrective Action Plans, etc.) and key performance metrics (e.g., On-Time-In-Full (OTIF), pricing compliance, % defect and other quality metrics, etc.).

Define, Develop and Execute Sourcing Strategy
Develops and executes category strategies, refining these strategies in line with changing business environments as needed
Reviews category workplans, charters, roles / responsibilities and facilitates functional area alignment to drive progress within the category
Establishes category documentation such as addressable spend, category value levers, and evaluates preliminary category value hypotheses
Establishes comprehensive framework for Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for managed category, capturing cost components such as unit price, tax, delivery, warranty & maintenance, scrap and replacement, internal process-related costs, etc.
Evaluates current category requirements and specifications and identifies opportunities to harmonize across the organization
Analyzes category supply markets to keep current on supplier and industry trends
Reviews internal requirements in context of the external supply market and refines category management strategies and tactics as needed
Reviews appropriate type of sourcing strategies (e.g., value engineering, demand management, etc.) and tactics (e.g., RFP, direct negotiation, etc.) and develops execution plans accordingly
Manages development, distribution, and facilitation of supplier qualification and RFx events
Leads major supplier negotiations, including negotiable issues across commercial and business terms; analyzes proposals across multiple considerations (e.g., service levels, quality, pricing, supplier innovations, risks, etc.)
Evaluates potential award scenarios, develops recommendations, and socializes recommendations with business stakeholders. Finalizes implementation plans based on results of award decisions
Monitors supplier progress against plans, including delivery of benefits, specific functional area KPIs, etc.
Reviews category and supplier performance tracking measures for relevance and effectiveness

Candidate Profile

Successful candidates should possess knowledge and experience and demonstrate strong leadership and relationship skills as follows:

Generally a professional position requiring significant knowledge and experience in one or more disciplines and/or business operations as well as associate management experience. College degree and/or relevant experience generally required.

Specific Candidate Profile

Delivers high impact presentations internally and externally and develops persuasive and convincing communications (e.g., proposals, reports, plans) to secure commitment from business leaders
Provides business insights based on rigorous analysis of category management levers to drive value
Provides thought leadership in developing clear sourcing strategy for selected categories, and proactively educates senior leaders / stakeholders on business implications of significant long-term trends (i.e., market drivers, regulatory and technology trends, etc.) that guide sourcing strategies.
Reviews internal / external data and market intelligence resources, integrating critical information and using as an input to drive strategy shifts at the broader business level
Reviews and supports development of long-range strategic roadmap aligned with business objectives and strategies that enables scalability, efficiency, and cost effectiveness of assigned categories.
Leads sourcing execution for complex projects and provides prioritization and deployment guidance for implementation teams across projects
Leads competitive bidding process for highly complex bids (e.g., multi-regional scope, multiple businesses). Provides guidance on pricing options best suited to MVW, market conditions, breakthrough technology use, and current competitive bidding practices that are consistent with MVW policies, ethical standards, and legal requirements
Leverages category expertise to identify and prioritize areas of opportunity and drives consensus with business team members on value of the approach
Minimum 7 years of combined sourcing / procurement / supply chain experience and/or functional experience in the assigned category
BS/BA in Supply Chain, Economics, Finance, or Business Administration; CSCP or MBA preferred
Possesses proficiency in industry-standard / leading-class contract terms and conditions (T&Cs)
Comfortable with large amounts of data and adopts a data-driven approach to strategic category management
Proficiency in PC-based applications, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint
