Description:

The Director of Strategic Communications is responsible for planning and executing ARRT's overall communications and public relations programs, including responsibility for the quality of the processes as well as the quality of products. The Director will provide professional guidance to the ARRT leadership team and will work collaboratively with other ARRT staff assuring that public relations and communication activities will fulfill best-practices standards. The Director will lead, motivate, supervise, and evaluate the communications department to promote a consistent, professional and collaborative image for the ARRT and help achieve its goals. The director will have significant responsibility to help assure excellent relationships between ARRT and all of its key stakeholder categories, and that all work products be of the highest professional quality. The director should be highly conversant in the theory and practice of these fields.

The Director reports to the Executive Director on policy matters and the Senior Director of Business Operations on operational matters and supervises the department staff.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Public Relations

  • Identify opportunities and develop media to educate the general public on the importance of credentialing of radiologic technologists
  • Propose and oversee image/relationship research
  • Develop targeted PR campaigns
  • Oversee Corporate Identity Program-Develop and periodically update annual organizational message
  • Cultivate professional relations with allied organization communications staff/freelancers/volunteers to maximize synergy

Media Relations

  • Employ effective media relations programs to help ARRT disseminate key messages to target audiences with implicit third-party endorsement
  • Cultivate professional relations with media contacts to assure access to media outlets
  • Monitor media outlets for articles relevant to ARRT and discuss with executive director
  • Prepare and disseminate new releases or responses on ARRT communications, projects, activities, and events
  • Approve news release drafts for distribution

Internet/Social Media

  • Develop and enhance communications potential of ARRT web site
  • Respond to info@arrt.org and e-mail received at ARRT's general address or route to the appropriate department for response
  • Develop ARRT social media strategy and implement recommended social media presence

Strategic Planning

  • Assist Executive Director in identifying future Marketing, communications, and PR needs/directions on a company wide basis
  • Participate in strategic planning sessions
  • Coordinate efforts to implement strategic plan sections assigned

Marketing

  • Design, execute, implement, facilitate, and report annual marketing plan for the organization

Exhibit

  • Work with executive director to identify meetings at which to exhibit
  • Supervise exhibit applications filing, transportation, set-up, staffing, and tear down
  • Develop graphics panels and promotional materials/events for targeted audience
  • Develop strategic communication goals for each meeting

Annual Report, Guiding Today's Certification and Educator Update

  • Plan publication schedules and assignments
  • Schedule activities to produce publications
  • Develop list of topics and recruit sources and/or writers
  • Write and/or edit key articles

Certification and Examination Handbooks

  • Schedule activities to produce Handbooks; gather, write, revise, and coordinate production
  • File copyright applications annually

Photography

  • Plan, arrange, and supervise photography of ARRT activities
  • Increase the visual element of ARRT's communications

Miscellaneous

  • Identify issues requiring Board policy decisions on communication and public relations
  • Provide staff support on communications and public relations at Board meetings
  • Keep Executive Director informed of departmental activities via regular weekly meetings or immediately in case of serious or potentially serious situations
  • Interact with Computer Services Department on development and maintenance of computer programs for communications and public relations
  • Special projects as assigned

General Managerial Responsibilities

The Director is responsible for managing staff, assessing departmental staffing needs, hiring, training, performing employee performance reviews, and completing other general managerial duties. Also responsible for department budgeting and contributing to strategic planning for the department and organization.

. Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field
  • Ten years of experience in Communication/Public Relations/Marketing

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master of Business Administration or related degree
  • Experience supervising/managing employees
  • APR or equivalent certification
