Job Description

The Director of QA will lead and advance food safety and compliance systems to facilitate the achievement of the company’s strategies and overall goals. Reporting to the President/CEO, he/she/they be responsible for ensuring all products are compliant with regulatory requirements and produced within Global Food Safety Initiative compliancy.

Tofurky is looking for a Director of Quality Assurance (QA) to join our team. The Director of QA has oversight of Tofurky’s QA Department; providing leadership and guidance for all aspects of food safety and regulatory compliance. This trusted expert will work with a core quality assurance team, in addition to working cross-functionally to maintain, develop and enhance food safety programs. He/She/They will be charged with effectively collaborating with all stakeholders to build and influence Tofurky’s food safety policy, procedures, and food safety culture.
What you’ll do:
The Director of QA will lead and advance food safety and compliance systems to facilitate the achievement of the company’s strategies and overall goals. Reporting to the President/CEO, he/she/they be responsible for ensuring all products are compliant with regulatory requirements and produced within Global Food Safety Initiative compliancy. As an expert problem solver and experienced leader, you will be called upon to use technical expertise to recommend solutions and implement corrective actions to advance food safety systems in a rapidly evolving and innovation-centric work environment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for ensuring all manufactured and distributed products are compliant within FDA or other relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Understands plant-based CPG manufacturing processes and oversee all aspects of food quality and safety for all products produced within our own or co-manufacturing facilities.
  • Maintains knowledge, understanding, and adheres to safety policies, USDA, GMP’s, QA, HACCP, Sanitation rules and regulations, and company policies.
  • Responsible for managing GFSI and NOP-compliant quality program(s), participates in regular food safety audits and assist in in-plant validation of Food Safety Preventive Controls.
  • Develop and communicate departmental strategic objectives that align with company strategy and operating budget.
  • Investigate and report food safety and food defense issues to key stakeholders and suppliers and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Provides leadership to Quality Assurance team by managing, motivating and developing individual team members; tracking progress toward goals.
  • Oversee food safety and quality training programs for all production and other relevant employees.

What skills and education you’ll need:

  • Demonstrated understanding of Quality Assurance/Food Science/Food Technology, or closely related field
  • 7-10 years Quality Assurance experience in the food industry with at least 5 years in a leadership role
  • The ability to act decisively and effectively deal with change
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, high intensity environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to partner with cross-functional stakeholders to gather consensus and alignment.
  • A data-driven mindset with a strong attention to detail
