Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

The Director of Project Finance is responsible for all aspects of Sun Tribe’s project finance activities, including oversite of M&A (MIPA & APA, etc.) transactions, Tax Equity and debt structuring, strategic planning, and reporting management. This position will work closely with the CTO and CFO to maximize economic returns in the deal structuring of Sun Tribe’s growing portfolio of PPAs. This position will maintain and grow third party financing relationships to ensure Sun Tribe has the most competitive financing sources available on the market. The position will also inform PPA prices, requiring a deep understanding of current market return expectations and long-term trends.

ORIGINATION

  • Maintain and improve Sun Tribe’s PPA financial model
  • Provide contractual support and mentorship to Development team on PPA origination efforts
  • When necessary, participate directly as part of the development team to convert key opportunities
  • Maintain key relationships with banks, financial institutions, and long term asset owners to ensure project valuations are at the most competitive terms
  • Provide training to Development team on fatal flaws related to PPA terms
  • Oversee real estate due diligence – confirm valid leaseholds recorded with localities

PROJECT SALES

  • Manage the stable of key long term asset owners
  • Manage outside counsel’s contributions to origination and project sales
  • Cultivate relationships with new long term asset owners that create value for the Sun Tribe ecosystem
  • Fully manage the due diligence items and close of APAs and MIPAs with long term asset owners
  • Work to eliminate credit support required in APA and MIPA transactions
  • Improve process flow and automation for financial closings
  • Continuously improve Sun Tribe’s form PPA and site lease, leverage outside counsel when necessary


PROJECT AQUISITION

  • Own and manage the project acquisition pipeline
  • Cultivate a network of 3rd party developers originating projects in Sun Tribe target markets
  • Fully diligence potential project acquisitions
  • Develop a targeted acquisition strategy and present to C suite
  • Develop and manage efficient contractual configuration for acquisitions

REPORTING

  • Develop full suite of reporting tools & KPIs
  • Consistently analyze project financial data and present repots to the Executive Team members;

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Masters in Finance, MBA, or equivalent work experience
  • A minimum five years’ experience in project finance as it relates to renewable energy
  • Experience leading tax equity structuring and sell side transactions
  • Expert in MS Excel and high proficiency with other MS Office products
  • Proficiency in Salesforce
  • Able to communicate complicated and technical points clearly both verbally and in writing
  • Knowledge of principles of GAAP
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work well with others in a collaborative team environment
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and ability to self-manage
  • Commitment to integrity in all dealings
  • Experience with credit analysis beneficial but not necessary
  • Valid state driver’s license, clean DMV driving record
