Job Description

Reports to: Executive Director of Expanded Learning, Partnerships and Advancement


OVERVIEW:

The Office of Expanded Learning, Partnerships and Advancement designs and implements a range of initiatives in collaboration with partners across Boston to provide learning opportunities for students, educators and community members. The Office also builds a web of support for all students to access year round learning opportunities, thinking beyond the traditional idea of school.


The Office of Expanded Learning, Partnerships and Advancement seeks a Director of Partnerships to develop, lead and manage the district’s strategic efforts to increase equitable access to high-quality opportunities provided by partners. To accomplish this goal, the Director must inclusively plan, collaborate and coordinate with essential stakeholders – district leadership, central offices, partners, and school leaders – to ensure shared ownership and achieve successful implementation of key milestones within the district’s Strategic Implementation Plan. This will create coherence, equity, alignment, and accountability throughout the complex BPS School- Partnership landscape.


Responsibilities:

  • Utilize a balanced scorecard to establish measurable goals, strategic objectives, benchmarks and other success measures for all Partnership initiatives and activities
  • Integrate goals and milestones from the District’s Strategic Implementation Plan (SIP) into the strategic direction and priorities for school-based Partnerships.
  • Provide effective supervision for all direct reports, including goal-setting, ongoing supervision, coaching, professional development and annual performance evaluations.
  • Responsible and accountable for the successful implementation of all school-based partnership milestones included in the District's strategic implementation plan
  • Manage all aspects of operations, including human resources and budget management with support from the Project Coordinator and Administrative Assistant
  • In partnership with the Executive Director work to review and refine the district's Partner Quality Standards and the Opportunity Portfolio process to vet partners against these standards.
  • Work with direct reports to to design and implement support and training for partners that enable them to meet district quality standards.
  • Responsible and accountable for successful end-to-end implementation of the Opportunity Portfolio process.
  • Lead the development, implementation and progress monitoring of a comprehensive project plan that clearly outlines and identifies owners, timelines and deliverables for each area of work.
  • Publish annual reports that provide information about the impact of partners at the school and student level, and towards meeting the district Strategic Implementation Plan milestones.
  • Responsible for the sound fiscal management of the centralized partnership funds.
  • Work with the Project Coordinator to develop and release requests for proposals, invitations for bids and unadvertised contracts in order to identify which partners receive BPS Partnership Funds, and execute post award requirements including Memorandums of Understanding, Data Sharing Agreements, Partnership Agreements or Business Contracts
    • Develop and implement clear guidelines, practices and/or policies for establishing partnership agreements between schools and partners along with partners and the District.
    • Collaborate with other departments to increase alignment and strengthen coordination for initiatives and strategies that engage and leverage BPS School-Community Partners

Qualifications - Required:


  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 7 years professional experience in an Urban School District and/or a urban youth-serving nonprofit organization
  • Demonstrated mastery of Microsoft Office Suite, Google workflow, and social media platforms.
  • Experience leading a team and developing staff
  • Ability to analyze, synthesize, present and use data to drive change
  • Demonstrated experience with project and budget management, including meeting tight deadlines to successfully achieve goals
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including tailoring information for multiple stakeholders
  • Strategic planning ability, organization, and discipline – the ability to chart a course of action, establish measurable deliverables, and stay the course
  • Experience managing complex projects to a successful conclusion leveraging and developing the talent of team members under management
  • An “outcome orientation” with the ability to effectively manage multiple responsibilities while maintaining the big picture as it relates to the mission of the organization
  • Demonstrated project management skills, including but not limited to the ability to create and manage self-directed projects, to devise and maintain project timelines, and to achieve desired outcomes on schedule.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally, within and across multiple teams and projects, while still achieving desired outcomes and meeting project timelines.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school leaders and staff, district staff and external partners and stakeholders.
  • Proactive, creative, and tenacious problem-solver with experience in organizing others to accomplish projects and can employ impeccable judgment, discretion, and integrity when making decisions.
  • Capable meeting facilitator
  • Ability to thrive in a high-pressure environment and to engage effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications - Preferred:


  • Bilingual
  • Familiarity with the Boston Public Schools, and familiarity with the local nonprofit community
  • Experience in K – 12 education


Terms:
Managerial, D61. City of Boston Residency is Required.
