Job Description

Position Summary:

At Warn Industries, about 50% of the workforce is directly involved in manufacturing our product. These team members report directly or indirectly to the Director of Manufacturing Operations (DMO). The Director leads, manages and directs all manufacturing operations for the assigned teams and some supporting functions. DMO (Director of Manufacturing Operations) assures that Warn team member are working as safely as humanly possible while achieving production objectives at the lowest cost consistent with our premium quality requirements. DMO actively delegates responsibility and authority to manufacturing managers and team leaders in production. DMO is responsible for overall safety, quality, continuous improvement and production deliverables for the designated areas of responsibility.

Warn Industries is fully committed to operating as a team-based organization. The DMO must be a leader and a coach, not a directive controller. DMO is responsible for partnership and support of Directors/Leaders across all functions of the organization to support Warn Industries’ cultural and strategic goals. Responsibility and accountability for manufacturing performance resides with the DMO. The DMO must realize cost center objectives through team leadership and development.

Essential Functions:

1. Meet or exceed Warn’s safety targets: Our stretch goal is always ZERO safety incidents. Every day, every person goes home healthy, happy and uninjured in any way. Lead and continue to refine a culture that values peoples’ safety above all else.

2. Lead the Manufacturing and Operations team: Identify the aspects of manufacturing and operations that are or will be World Class at Warn and lead the teams as necessary to accomplish that vision. In concordance with the Senior Leadership Team, lead the creation and implementation of tactical plans for manufacturing operations that will achieve Warn’s Strategic Vision. Present, reiterate and clarify Warn’s Strategic Vision to production teams and lead them through the realization of the vision.

Define and develop Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for manufacturing. Use the KPIs to measure performance and progress against goals for the manufacturing teams.

The DMO runs manufacturing at Warn as a thriving and profitable business in concert with peer Directors for the development, planning, implementation and maintenance of manufacturing methods and equipment for new and existing products and technologies.

In cooperation and concordance with the other leaders at Warn, research, develop and implement policies, processes and procedures for manufacturing operations, then lead your team to fulfill them. Formulate manufacturing operations strategies, standards, projects and plans using sound business, manufacturing and technical experience. Specific skills and experience needs include but are not limited to budgeting, capital expenditures (CapEx), continuous improvement, lean, systems analysis, capacity development, tooling, material optimization, and fabrication and machining methods.

3. Develop the Mfg and Ops team: With ½ of Warn’s workforce reporting to the DMO, this leader must be a team-builder and a communicator. Every other team at Warn needs to know what is happening in manufacturing and the leader of manufacturing serves as the role model for his team on how to serve and to be served by these other teams.

The DMO is a coach for his teams’ leaders by: a) providing opportunities and guidance for leadership development; b) creating development and training plans in concordance with the Human Resources department; c) serving as a mentor to his teams’ leaders and demonstrating positive, enthusiastic performance as a Warn employee as a model for all team members.

The DMO leads research and learning about new and emerging manufacturing technologies and industry trends, as well as collaborating with other professionals inside and outside of Warn Industries to improve manufacturing operations. The DMO represents Warn in the community and promotes the organization’s goodwill and interests in community activities.

As team members develop, the DMO reviews and approves recommendations of team leaders in matters of personnel or rate changes. As a part of this function, the manufacturing leaders make the path to advancement clear and provide specific opportunities for review of skill sets that allow advancement.

4. Meet or exceed Warn’s quality and compliance targets: In concordance and collaboration with the Director of Global Quality, create and direct manufacturing programs that ensure the quality of the product. Leads the team that delivers premium products that consistently exceed customer expectations for product quality and on-time delivery. This responsibility includes ongoing quality, safety and efficiency improvements for all of manufacturing operations, as well as compliance with safety, state and federal regulations.

The DMO is accountable for Sarbanes-Oxley compliance in her/his assigned area. She/he is responsible for design and operating effectiveness of internal controls, including a self-assessment and report to management. Again, in conjunction with the Director of Global Quality, the DMO serves as a key participant in annual review/certification audits for ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and/or other audits such as IATF TS16949. Overall, the DMO is responsible and accountable for developing and monitoring processes and practices necessary for legal and ethical compliance in operations.

5. Meet or exceed Warn’s production targets: The DMO leads the team that produces premium Warn products while consistently exceeding customer expectations for on-time delivery. Every machine, cell, team and line shall have targets to which the teams measure actual performance using the leading metrics and KPIs defined by the manufacturing teams. Meeting overall production output targets is an integrated dance that Manufacturing performs with the Warn Engineering, Global Supply Chain, Production Engineering, Global Quality and Facility teams. Concordance, cooperation, and communications is essential to high performance manufacturing.

Minimization of “line down” situations is a priority for the DMO, who partners with the leader of Facilities Management to plan, budget, and monitor the maintenance of buildings, manufacturing equipment, and plant security and protection. The DMO ensures that all equipment used for production is maintained and working properly. This effort involves establishing guidelines for the safe operation and maintenance of equipment and scheduling equipment testing and routine maintenance.

6. Meet or exceed Warn’s manufacturing cost and expense targets: The DMO collaborates with the Directors of Production Engineering and Global Supply Chain for continuous reduction of product net costs. The DMO develops and maintains a budget of expenses for the Manufacturing Operations team and using experience, planning and good sense, constantly drives down those expenses to the benefit of Warn. The DMO also develops plans for and leads advocacy of efficient use of capital spending (CapEx) in Warn manufacturing and operations, such as equipment purchases and plant expansion.

7. Meet or exceed Warn’s productivity and efficiency targets: In concordance with the Directors of Production Engineering and Global Supply Chain, the DMO identifies opportunities, develops plans, and implements efforts that reduce manufacturing costs of processes, components and assemblies.

8. Other duties as assigned: The Director of Manufacturing Operations - Is responsible for prompt and regular attendance as scheduled. Works with Corporate and Facility support services, such as I.T., Human Resources, Quality, Accounting/Finance and Maintenance to acquire and coordinate needed services for specific areas of responsibility. May participate in identifying merger and acquisition opportunities and/or related due diligence, negotiation and post-acquisition integration. May travel occasionally for company or industry events

Required Education and/or Experience:

1. The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in business administration or in a pertinent technical field such as engineering. A Master’s degree in a related field is preferred.

2. The successful candidate will have general management experience in manufacturing company environments, preferably including metal machining, fabrication, powder coating, and assembly.

3. The successful candidate will have ten or more years of diverse management experience including production and lean/continuous improvement methodologies.

9. Comprehension of constructive conflict and its proper application in the workplace.

10. Large-scale problem solving abilities.

11. Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.

12. The ability to facilitate activities necessary to a project’s completion. Accountability for responsibilities and commensurate authority is essential to the future of Warn.
