DIRECTOR OF HUMAN RESOURCES (HR), School of Engineering (SoE), to serve as a strategic partner to the SoE’s dean and work in collaboration its assistant deans. Will direct a wide-range of HR activity on behalf of the dean, with particular focus on administrative, support, research, and other academic staff; provide operational oversight and serve as senior counsel to the SoE and its departments, labs, and centers (DLCs) in all areas of HR, including recruitment and retention, onboarding, wage and salary administration, job classification, performance development and management, employee relations, organizational development, workforce and succession planning, and diversity initiatives; initiate and implement ongoing assessment of HR programs/procedures and develop and/or refine HR policies/practice; ensure the integrity of HR operations across the SoE; provide support and analysis for short- and long-term HR planning activities for the SoE and DLCs; provide leadership for DLC staff responsible for HR-related decisions and operations; and oversee and manage Dean’s Office-level review and disposition of HR transactions submitted by SoE DLCs.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: B.A./B.S.; ten years’ experience as an HR generalist or its equivalent, preferably in a higher education setting; excellent active listening, analytical, and written and verbal communication skills; ability to provide collaborative leadership, generate creative solutions to complex problems, adapt to and work effectively with various individuals/groups in a variety of situations, understand formal/informal organizational structures and relationships, and link long-range visions and concepts to daily work; attention to detail, but with ability to view larger policy concerns; ability to implement new or interpret existing policies/procedures and prioritize multiple and often competing demands under deadline pressure; and good judgment, tact, and discretion with sensitive/confidential matters. PREFERRED: master’s degree, knowledge of the operation and culture of academic departments, and MIT experience. Job #21324-12
