Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State Abington College seeks a dynamic Director of Athletics, Intramurals and Recreation to provide leadership for the College’s NCAA Division III athletics programs, club sports, campus recreation and wellness offerings. The Director of Athletics administers the overall athletic program of Penn State Abington.

Penn State Abington College is a member of the Northeastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (NEAC) and has 13 varsity sports programs. The Director serves as a member of the Student Affairs leadership team and reports to the Director of Student Affairs (ADR). The Director of Athletics, Intramurals and Recreation responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Strategic planning and analysis
  • Program creation and implementation
  • Oversight of recruitment metrics
  • Provide fiscal oversight of the intercollegiate athletics and recreation programs intramural programs, club sports, and related activities
  • Safety and security

The position supervises all department staff in conjunction with the planning and development of all departmental goals and objectives. The Director assures that departmental planning and decisions promote a full commitment to equity and inclusion in all aspects of student engagement with athletics, gender equity, and successful athletics experiences by all students.

Typical requirements of this position are a Bachelors degree or higher and seven years of experience in intercollegiate athletics, coaching, or athletics administration. Masters degree preferred. Division III Intercollegiate Athletics experience as a coach or as an experienced athletics administrator. CPR, First Aid, AED certifications may be required. This position requires the following clearances: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.

An energetic and motivational leader who is adept at delegating duties and responsibilities. The successful candidate will have experience with strong budget management, fundraising, working with multiple campus and community stakeholders and strong verbal and written communications as well as a demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion.

CAMPUS SECURITY CRIME STATISTICS:

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Pennsylvania Act of 1988, Penn State publishes a combined Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR). The ASR includes crime statistics and institutional policies concerning campus security, such as those concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault, and other matters.
