Job Description

SUMMARY

The position of Director of Accounting Services is responsible for the accounting, recording, and reporting of financial information of the Youth Ranches. In addition, this position is responsible for Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and receipting of all donations. The Director of Accounting Services is directly responsible to the Vice President Finance. This position is not eligible for overtime pay.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervises the operation of the Accounting Services Department, including all general ledger and reporting functions.
  • Ensures timely and accurate monthly closings of general ledger with prompt distribution of all related financial reports.
  • Provides accounting support as needed to other departmental managers to support Raiser’s Edge operations, and the data exchange between Raiser’s Edge and Financial Edge software.
  • Ensures appropriate and timely billing for contracts and fees for service.
  • Ensures that accounts receivable (contracts, fees for service, camp income, third party billing, etc.) are booked to the general ledger and balanced on a monthly basis.
  • Reconciles monthly revenues posted to Raiser’s Edge and Financial Edge records.
  • Maintains and/or modifies accounting policies and procedures necessary to produce reliable financial information and to provide good systems of internal accounting controls; maintains current operational procedures for all areas of responsibility, including establishment and maintenance of Departmental Accounting Manual.
  • Prepares documents for the financial and compliance audits of the agency; works closely with external auditors.
  • Assists in the annual budgeting process which includes providing assistance, consultation, and feedback to departments and programs.
  • Administers Data base Management pertaining to Accounting records.
  • Assists Vice President Finance with special duties and/or projects such as Investments, Restricted Funds, etc, as needed.
  • Ensures that all staff under supervision of this position has a strong focus toward customer service.
  • Ensures consultation and training is provided to agency staff on accounting matters and the use of accounting computer systems and software.
  • Ensures that adequate cross training of positions is completed for all positions under area of supervision.
  • Recommends, implements, and evaluates strategies for increased efficiency.
  • Responsible for preparation of data needed for the single audit.
  • Ensures General Ledger account analysis is performed on consistent basis to ensure accounts balance to subledgers.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

The person filling this position must possess a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and three to five years accounting experience that includes supervisory experience. Additionally, proficiency with Excel is required and experience with Blackbaud software and database management is desirable.

  • Must have experience in long range planning, business planning, forecasting, evaluations, and analysis of fiscal operations.
  • Must have a strong orientation to customer service and be able to work effectively with others.
  • Must be able to delegate effectively and follow-up to ensure performance meets assigned objectives.
  • Must have the ability to prepare statistical reports that include graphical presentation, charts and tables.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of PC’s and Windows-based software and be proficient in Microsoft Excel.
  • Must have a valid Florida Driver License and be able to maintain a safe driving record consistent with agency policy.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The Director of Accounting Services must be willing and free to travel as necessary; work is generally performed in an office environment. There are no special conditions.
