Job Description

The Director, Finance Systems will lead a team responsible for the architecture, design, development, support, maintenance and future roadmaps for Finance applications and associated processes. These systems and technologies include Planning and Budgeting platforms, reporting and analytics specific to Finance and Accounting, support of the financial close process and Revenue Accounting solutions. The Director, Finance Systems will collaborate with senior Finance and Accounting leaders and other key stakeholders across several areas of the business to identify, prioritize and deliver technology solutions in support of their goals and objectives. This is a global role, supporting key stakeholders in our Boston and London headquarters, as part of a dynamic and growing business.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Partner with business stakeholders across Finance and Accounting and GIS collaborators in order to manage and prioritize the enterprise applications technology portfolio and continually build the future roadmap
  • Build and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders - become a trusted partner and have an ongoing, significant impact towards meeting strategic business goals
  • Present ideas and forward-looking plans to, and engage directly with, cross-functional senior leaders on regular basis
  • Direct and lead a small team of Vertex and external resources, plus a managed services group of developers, administrators, and business systems analysts
  • Oversee a portfolio of projects, programs, releases and system enhancements, assuring quality and timeliness of delivery while remaining within allocated budget limits
  • Manage consultants associated with projects and enhancements to deliver quality solutions in partnership with the goals and objectives of key business partners
  • Proactively offer best practice recommendations, solution ideas, and potential business process improvements associated with the planning and budgeting process in pursuit of driving efficiencies and meeting business needs
  • Enhance and improve internal processes and procedures related to demand management, resource management, project delivery, platform releases and ongoing operational support
  • Evaluate current on-premises systems for migration to cloud solutions, partnering closely with the business and GIS business partners to set appropriate expectations, manage the migration/ change management activities and ensure alignment with Vertex standards
  • Manage relationships with our strategic software vendors and service providers
  • Provide day-to-day support and maintenance for Hyperion Planning, HFM and custom Essbase solutions, ensuring maximum uptime, high performance, and excellent customer service
  • Work closely with GIS Compliance, Internal Audit and Quality Assurance groups as needed to ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) regulations, as well as our GIS system lifecycle and change management requirements

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Deep experience with enterprise performance management solutions used to support the budgeting and planning process
  • Knowledgeable on planning and budgeting best practices including long range plans, budgets and forecasts, as well as basic accounting concepts
  • Very strong communication, interpersonal, and collaborative skills
  • Proven capabilities in people management and building high-performing teams
  • Experience with running IT managed services or outsourced/ offshore teams, as well as operational support and maintenance of regulated, production systems
  • Program / project management, demand management, resource management and system life cycle expertise
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, knowledgeable on reporting and analysis solutions including Power BI and SmartView
  • Hands on experience with the Oracle Hyperion Planning platform including Essbase, HFM and SmartView
  • Strong collaboration and change management skills

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors Degree plus 10+ years relevant work experience
  • Biotech or pharmaceutical industry experience
  • Experience with cloud EPM Solutions (Oracle Hyperion or other vendors)
  • Knowledgeable on Revenue Accounting processes
  • Experience leading organizations and teams through transformational programs specifically in planning and budgeting or reporting
